With the DED having issued a general alert to capsuleers, and Rogue Drone hives appearing all across New Eden, speculation is growing about the nature of the incident, with the first artifacts retrieved from the hives raising many questions.

Several researchers have raised the issue of why the Drone hive structures resemble parts of Jovian stations, with several possibilities being discussed, including that the Rogue Drones have found a way into Jove space and have assimilated the technological objects found there, using the designs for their own purposes.

We spoke with a Rogue Drone specialist from the University of Caille, who had this to say:
"Drones accumulate designs for all sorts of things, from their encounters with the debris of human civilisation. Any datacores, or structures, or derelict ships, can be copied and repurposed by the Drones for their own ends. Look at the Tentacle Dominix as an example."

The presence in the Hives of what appear to be SKIN designs is the most baffling phenomenon, according to many specialists, as Rogue Drones have not been widely known to have expressed an interest in art in the past. It has been hypothesised that the Drones came across a shipment of SKIN designs and have copied them mindlessly, due to their bizarre programming, but as yet, no SKIN designer has admitted losing any shipments of their designs to Drone attack.

The most disturbing discovery though, are what appear to be a form of Cerebral Accelerator device, found in some of the Hives. Numerous capsuleers have reported that the devices are compatible with capsule systems, and does accelerate their neural programming, but the motivation behind the Rogue Drones creation of such a device is unclear.

"I think the Drones must have some kind of human farm, and are growing capsuleer-derived human brains to use as brainputers in their next-generation combat drones", said one Jin-Mei female capsuleer.
"I plugged one of those things into my brain and I eeeaaaarrrrrgggghhh, nah, just joking with ya. Had you going there for a moment.", said a male Gallente capsuleer.
"If they have brains similar enough to our own, should they have the same rights as humans do ?", pondered a female Intaki capsuleer.

A DED source claims that the swarm outbreak will be under control within no more than two weeks, though some have questioned exactly how they would know such a thing.
