No, "So Long" attached.

Storytime with Cannie! (it's a thing)

I've been married 7 years. My spouse (one or more members of Wingspan TT whose identity has never been confirmed or denied) has a mild problem. I say mild because it's probably only cost us a few thousand real monies over the course of our marriage as opposed to the pour couples who have a more serious problem.
Any game that allows purchasing of in-game items or content with real world money.
World of Warcraft, Playstation Network (Sony is the devil), Star Wars Online (EA is only slightly less evil than Sony), Elder Scrolls Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Magic the Gathering (I can't even explain that one), Black Desert Online, Runescape (...), I could go on but there's more to this post than enumerating all the places his addiction has made itself known to me.
With each of these companies my spouse has used a bank card tied to our joint account in order to purchase something minor, something small, something not a huge deal nor something to be more than marginally annoyed at the expenditure about. One charge turns into two turns into six turns into ten. And the amount charged is never what was anticipated. $5 becomes $20 becomes $180, ect. Allegedly some of these massive amounts of charges were said to take place over the course of months but all show up at the same time right before bills need to be paid. The bank has even been blamed for intentionally holding charges from showing up until they can post them all at the same time in order to charge us additional fees (#conspiracy #skeptical)
For seven years I've heard "No more! This makes me so mad, I'm not going to spend any more money on Company (variable)!"

What I wanted to say is... CCP, thank you. Thank you for not taking advantage of me or my spouse. Thank you for charging exactly what you say you're going to charge exactly when you say you're going to charge it. Thank you for having adequate security in order to safeguard both my account and my financial information. Of all the passwords I've used over the years, not one of my Eve passwords has ever been compromised or leaked or found in a Paste.bin somewhere. Thank you CCP for doing your job. I may cranky face my way across dozens of message boards and troll and harass the clientele of any and all companies I encounter but you give me a safe and secure place to do so and even provide me a place to do that in real time (with a 2 second delay). My spouse and I are working on our first real life clone and I plan on getting my scout/spai/isk farmer trained up and plugged into a capsule if I ever let the little innocent touch a game with other people in it (gasp).

P.S. Buy torpedoes from Wingspan and buy ships from BOVRIL.

You should probably be careful buying it and use it right away. Because this stuff doesn't seem particularly salted.

That's one good thing about not being married, I suppose - if I decide to spend a lot of money on my fabulously awesome furry cosplay outfit...um...ah...theoretically...it affects noone but me.

Depends on whether you buy off the rack or craft your own.

Or so I'm told.

What an elegant rant/praise-combo! And neatly tied up with cute baby story in the end :)
I like this thread already.

I never got any spam or phishing mails regarding EVE on the mail account I registered with my accounts.

This is distinctly different from other games I've played in the past.

Post of the year 2017. Nice work Cannie.

I don't play any other MMO's, can someone explain the difference between PLEX and the in-game purchases the op is talking about?

It is interesting to me that her husband has a problem controlling his spending on one type of in-game purchase but apparently not with CCP's RMT options.

I blame stupid credit card / banking systems that only charge after a certain amount of time, instead of when you actually purchase something.

Fortunately where I live you actually pay for something the moment you buy it.

His only explanation to me is that he's a stupid head... which while accurate does not do much in explanation or a solution... he makes all the isk he (and I) need selling torpedoes from WH to WH

The issue I believe has more to do with dishonesty, greed, and bad security than it does with just foolish spending habits alone. Many other MMOs are pay to win (SWTOR you even have to pay to have more action bars) and the latest problem went from "I'll get this inexpensive little thing" to the actual amount being charged 8x what was expected. The worst by far was losing half our rent to a game, and not having anything showing up in the game to reflect the amount paid which indicates it was most likely entirely fraudulent. He got game items as compensation but that doesn't help much when rent is due.
I really don't know how he does it as I've had one case of account theft in these seven years... and I actually benefited from the theft as they paid my subscription and didn't have time to do any damage before I regained access and locked them out Pirate Even got a free sub for a friend whose account was compromised with mine. I gotta say... either my spouse is super unlucky or I'm fabulously lucky.
