Regarding scanning

I presume this is the best place to put a question regarding scanning seing as most if not all capsuleers here scan as part of their daily life. :)

I just tried to find data and relic sites in high sec, doing it as a practice for when I venture into wormhole space, and imidiately I struck a problem. Finally found a data site however I can't scan it down enough to be able to warp towards it, and from what I read scanning them down in high sec should be easier than in wormhole space, so if I am having trouble here will scanning them down in wormhole space be just plain impossible.

One of the 1st issues I could find behind as to why this is happening might be my poor fitting and skills, but then I started thinking that high sec is made for new players and my skills as an alpha pilot should be enough or is my logic wrong?

My current fit is:

Imicus

I have core probe launcher I with core scan probes. In middle slots I have 3x scan rangefinding array and a single scan acquistion array. In rigs I put some rigs that improved data and relic efficiency of the said modules.

Any help and suggestions are welcome and apreciated.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: found another data site, same thing, I get to 63% and can't get higher. :(

what are your skills?
i have not scanned in a T1 frig for a long time but I find it hard to believe it would have issues with HS sites, that's kinda what it's for.

If you get astrometrics to 4 and the support stills to 3, you can scan out any sig in a WH so certainly should be able to in HS.
back in the day i'd ask if it was a technique issue but really if you just put the default pinpoint formation on a sig and keep reducing the size and recentering, you're good to go.

As for the fit, I'd recommend using the gravity cap rigs for probe strength and get a pinpointing module in the mids.

Possibly you had the bad luck of finding two sleeper caches in a row. They are very hard to scan down, and can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, so most high sec players will leave them be and will have hacked all the regular data/relics.

Scan some more, especially in more out of the way high sec spots. Back when I still scanned in high sec, my rule of thumb was that I needed to be at least 20 jumps from Jita before I'd even bother launching my probes.

I have maxed skills an alpha can have. (Atrometrics 3, Survey 3, Atrometric pathfinding and rangefinding on 2, can't even train Astrometric pinpointing)

I put different rigs cause I thought the stacking bonus might be too great and figured that I might have problems with the actual site because my skills were low.

I have since the post was made managed to muster courage to go into a wormhole (really exciting) and managed to scan down all the data and relic sites. I am happy with that so I guess there was no need for this post in the 1st place just some more trying.

Thank you both for replying

This is not true, sleeper caches will not be scannable with this level of skill, unless you are very lucky. You need to have at least 4s across the board, if not astrometrics itself to 5 to scan these down.

You kind of undid your own point there...
So they are actually still scannable Lol

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Have you ever found a sleeper cache in a WH?

My skills are all 3s, with the exception of Astrometics at 4. I find a sleeper cache in hisec about once/day as I'm looking for WH's. They kill me at about the same rate I find them. But I CAN scan them down in a Heron, I've just never been able to survive my own clumsy hacking abilities. But it's fun to try!

Once again, Duune spreading his misinformation around... Why am I not surprised What?

There are 3 variations of sleeper cache sites with Superior being the hardest to scan. That one requires some combination of good skills, implants, mods, rigs to get you to ~100+ scan resolution. And then finish with manually moving probes.

Wow...

Well I guess I have a long road in front of me. :)

Thank you for the info.

Always appreciated.
