Ok I've tried on two seperate ocssasions to post this so here goes........

I've been asked by a GM to post this in the below petition section of the forums so a Game Dev might actually read it.

I recently setup a new extractor on a planet and never set a route for the extraced minerals to the processor.
The processor however has still managed to complete its extraction time (4 days in this case) without actually extracting a single piece of planetary material. The planets resources were also depleted during this time and the extracted materials vanished into thin air.

I suggested in the petition that the PI extraction cycles cease if there is nowhere for the materials to be sent. much as the same is done with mining should there be no space /nowhere for the materials to go.

Since I sent in the petition I've carried out some research into the above and have discovered that all levels of PI manufacture have the same issue. i.e. your materials dissappear into thin air should you forget to set a destination route from the processor back to your storage facility.

This needs to be addressed as the substanial increased costs in PI production since the introduction of Crucible makes this oversight potentially very expensive.

Something along the lines as what is required when using an POS assembly array module would be ideal. i.e. you require an output before you can select the job.

I've seen something like that as a 'papercut' rather than a major issue, since it can be avoided by having a second look at your setup. And yes, it happened to me as well, more than once, that I didn't set up a route and wasted a day's worth of materials. But I never blamed anyone else than me for that.

Though, on the other hand... stopping production/extraction and setting the installation to 'idle' mode if it cannot deliver its product for whatever reason (target location full, no route, ...)? I'd favour it.

I think such a change would benefit 'chained' installations as well where processing plants are directly interconnected with each other than the usual star-shaped setup with the landing pad/storage silo in the center.

one simple solution would be to highlight the facility (say with a red ring) when there is a product (on the products tab) for that facility and a condition of Not routed exists for that product. They already tell you this, if you open the facility. They just need to add an indicator somewhere besides INSIDE the facility itself.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Or to pop-up a message when you try t leave PI telling "some items are not routed, are you sure you want to exit?"

Yes all god ideas.

Basically we all agree there needs to be some sort of reminder on the setting up of PI routes to inform you there is a cul-de-sac somewhere and your materails will be vapourised once you leave unless you sort a route out.

That's a decent enough idea, and seems easy to implement.

I would implement a resource flow screen which shows the routes a product takes threw all installations.

Come on CCP get off your rear at least acknowledge that the contents of this thread has merits and needs to be addressed.

working as intended.

Honestly, they're pumping it out of the ground, but since they don't have any place to send it, they just dump it outside the door.

Quick Fix--ROUTE IT.

not that hard.

also, costs haven't gone up as far as setting up PI.

Merely the import/export. So you lost a day and a million ISK with having to set up a new spaceport/ECU or two somewhere else.

boo freaking hoo. go run a level I mission and earn it back.

Just because a GM asked you to post it here doesn't mean anything. Devs don't do much of anything on here, they might skim the forum now and then, but they don't post a ton.

Thank you for the heads up.

Unfortunate as it is it seems those who shout loudest on here get noticed.
