Is making it so that you can watch your own videos in the CQ a violation of the EULA or a Banable action?

Example of this action

I would really like to get some input on this and I'm sure others would as well.

You guys have been very active today don't let us down now.

Technically it is since you are modifying the game client which is against EULA. Now can/will CCP actually ban you for it? Doubtful since I don't think they even have a way to check to see if you have or not. Its one of those things that yeah you won't get in trouble for doing, but if you mess something up they aren't going to help.

That is the way I look at it, but I really wish we could get an official response. Maybe they should think about impleminting this as a feature. I really don't see a downside to doing that.

I just have horrible luck sometimes and with the way my month has gone in RL somehow they would find out and I'd get a ban lmao.

Of course you should wait for a GM ruling, but the forums might not be the best place for it (or at least, not the only place) - I trust you HAVE also filed a petition asking this ?

Anyway, I can only assume (I haven't actually bothered checking, and you probably know for sure anyway so you might as well state whether it's true or not), but I think it would involve modifying at least one game file for you to be able to do that (either managing to add your custom vid to the list of those in the screen rotation, or replacing an existing vid with your custom one), and that technically does fall under EULA breaches ("modifying the game client"), even if it's completely benign.

The GMs (well, not the first tier, but after escalation) might show leniency (unlikely, but possible) and merely discourage people from doing any of it as opposed to handing out warning or bans (if they would ever even bother to check for this), but then again, they might simply add those files to the ones that get checksummed and "phoned in to the mothership" and everybody doing it could face a semi-automatic ban regardless of how benign it is.

I honestly did not think about making a petition for it but I will now. And as far as I can tell you do have to modify files. I am not 100% sure as I do not want to try until I know if it is ok to do it. As far as I know it is OK to add music to the game (i'm assuming this because I haven't read differently and haven't looked into it because I'm not really interested in it). If it is ok to add the music then this shouldn't be any different IMO.

I'll keep hoping for a response here while I wait for one with the petition.

It has been ruled as legitimate for now. I can't be arsed to dig up the quote/link, but I'm sure some kind GM will come in here and back me up at some point.

The difference would be that there is an "Add Playlist" function built into the jukebox function of your game client... you don't have to alter or replace any files to add the music.

Now that being said, if there are plans in the pipe to allow this functionality anyway that might explain the post above that says there is a thread with a tentative nod that this is acceptable.

Filing a petition to be sure is probably the wisest approach, but will require some patience on your part. If you think about it when you get an answer, let people know in this thread if you have time. I'm sure many people would like to know as well.

OH I SOOOO want this to be added in.

A violation, who knows, but you can't exactly get a advantage over another person doing this.
Which is the reason behind EULA violation rules to begin with.

It would be like.
Oh the stations camped.
GO ahead man have fun the game is on, let me know if they leave LolLolLolLolLol

This looks awesome, nice work!

It might even make me re-tick 'Load station environment' option again for a while, if they allow it.

Bump.

It would be good to get some official feedback regarding this. The ability to have specific personalised video on the CQ screen is a potentially a game saving feature. (Imagine if next years Alliance tourny was free on CQ and cost RL$ to none logged in players)

It is a pity that the guy filing the petition can not share the answer with everyone else - because that to is against the EULA.

I'm thinking its a quagmire of legalities.

I'm pretty sure when you set about to make something able to play any video you want you are subject to certain licensing and anti-piracy things.

Can't say for sure, but I wouldn't expect a statement any time soon

Not sure if it is against the eula, becouse you are "JUST" adding video to a "playlist(folder)"
so you are not injecting code or stuff like that... it's kind of modding, not sure what CCP thinks about it.
