[Sun Gfx followup] Reactions only on Suns

Hello,

as i saw the masstest announcement on new sun gfx today, i think its time to translate my idea into english. You can find my Blogpost here. https://electronicwarfareenthusiast.wordpress.com/2017/03/22/weltraum-muehlen/ (its german). One interesting part is where i compare (or just hint) fracking to farms, reactions to mills, t2manufacturing to bakery and the importance of mills in the middleages.

I will Exclude any suggestions/ideas on moonfracking. This post is focused on refining, reactions and a particular part in the t2 production chain.

(Changes/additions to the plans that got released at time of this post.)

  • anchor refineries anywhere -> enable t1refine. (as planed)
  • only when anchored on moon --> enable fracking (as planed)
  • only when anchored on sun -> enable reaction (new)
  • only when vulnerable -> run reaction (let timer of jobs run. pause otherwise.)
  • moons continue as planned (but can only be exploded when vuln. or will just explode on next vuln.)
  • enable more dynamic vulnerability for refineries. ability to set 24/7 all the way to a minimum of ?6 hours.
  • System index modifier for reaction/refine is dependend on the "size/power of the sun" as well.
  • sov and fw bonuses to index modifier.
  • (i dont know yet, if i would want to allow multiple structures on one sun) EDIT: yes definitely only one per sun.

lore: reactions need LOTS of energy. Ice is just not enough.
gameplay reasons and effekts id like:
limited places to fight over or protect.
good visibility.
sun grid becomes meaningful. (other than 1v1 Roll)
sun's attributes become meaningful.
size of sov empire or number of "controled" systems might become important. maybe too important for smaller parties to participate. --> balanceteam o7?!
An end to TZ-tanking. But only in this profession. so again, there is an incentive for alliances to spread their TZ instead of specializing on just one TZ. diversity is good in my book.

Have fun with this input. See you next time.
Ben

Energy in Eve is derived via fusion power or something similarly powerful. The reactors that power a Citadel provide more power than a solar collector could ever reasonably provide without occluding a statistically significant portion of the sun.

Preventing people from doing reactions except on a sun-anchored Refinery is kinda silly. It forces small orgs to anchor a second refinery to react the materials they're mining and since one Refinery is enough to run as many reaction jobs as anyone could reasonably want you're not actually creating any kind of real scarcity here. Anyone who might remotely hit the reaction cap for a single system already has a Refinery on every single moon, it's only the small groups you're pressuring here.

The moon rocks detonating during vulnerability is more interesting, but mostly because it creates a trade-off for the Alliance owning the moons. Either set you vulnerability when someone's around to mine the stuff or lose a lot of goo to ninja-miners.

Oh Cade, think of the "poor" sov owners that never have enough isk for anything.

What they need is a tech 2 titan that only they can provide all that moon-poo for.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

thats true. its not my goal to create any shortages here.

if only one refinery, then control over system's reactions.
the ONE here is the scarcity in possible locations.
that makes the control over that location strategically important.
something something king of the hill.

a refinery cost only 1bil.
might want to have special rigs for reactions anyway. (those will differ from those used for fracking im sure)
therefor placing another refinery "somewhere" will be done anyway.

It doesn't though, it just punishes small groups who might want to run cheap reactions, since all the larger groups can just haul stuff to one central location to react it if they need to.

Sure, people will put up other Refineries for whatever reason or other, but there's no reason to force them to put it at one particular location.

The only reason for creating this sort of weird scarcity mechanic is if it drives something interesting. It's not going to drive conflict among larger groups, but it might very well push a ton of smaller ones out of being able to participate in this area of gameplay. Oh, and it gives renter alliances on more thing they can charge for. Why, exactly, is any of that a good thing?

I'd lean more toward T3 Gas harvesting if you anchor them to suns (only in wormholes). Leave people to do reactions wherever they please.

Instead up tractoring up a moon pie, you'd be clustering super-heated plasma. The moon detonation phase would shift to triggering a solar flare event that blocks out dscan visibility of people on grid with the sun and shortens probe life to 5 minutes...or something along those lines.

I like that creative approach.
