Hi guys. Not sure to post here or in the general section, I'll have a go here.

I am curious about what kind of fitting strategies you guys recommend for new players (omega) that would like to start with solo pvp. Mostly frrigs and destroyers in low sec. Obviously I will lose A LOT of ships starting out so things can get expensive in a hurry. Do you guys recommend going all in with the fits straight away or hold back on the more expensive meta modules until I start to know what the f**k I am doing? I am not talking about silly expensive faction or deadspace modules but for example a Crosslink CBCS versus the t1 variant, F-S9 versus Azeotropic, etc etc. Most of these lesser modules will gimp me in some way or another, but the likelihood of me getting owned is high anyway so... What do you guys recommend. Buy a bunch of the same frig and fit them up with the lesser modules and head out or go all in and hope it will give me little more surviveability starting out?

There's nothing wrong with cheap fits, it's just that your engagement profile will decrease. But it's totally viable.

It's probably best to fit whatever you can within your budget, and get popped. Maybe after 20 losses, you'll figure out what ships you like flying, and what ships you want to kill. The more specific you become, the more cheaper it'll probably get, but you'll get less fights.

For example, you see alot of people flying Tristans (drone frigate) these days. You might come up with a cheap kiting anti-Tristan fit that'll outpace the drones. The fit is excellent against Tristans, but crap vs everything else. Because the fit will have such a huge edge over a Tristan, you can cut corners and fit cheaper modules, but in this case, you'll want to avoid fights with other ships. That's just a basic example.

Solo pvp, is a somehow of strategic game where you have to surprise your enemy performing better that he thought.

So my recomendation, is start with known and well proven fittings, and see what people is throwing to you.

At some point you'll have information to counter them with an unexpected fit.

Per example, most tristan today are kitey ship, so use the neutralizing fit to surprise your opponent, instead of the tipical kitey.

When I started I've used thrashers with 3 neuts to neutralize the incursus and commets that veterans was throwing to me, brawling talwars with rockets and 400mm plate just because overybody think a talwar = sniper.

Forget minmatar frigates except the breacher and arty firetail, they require knowlodge and skills thay you will probably not have.

After a lost combat, ask your opponent what you did wrong, what you should have done to win the combat, pvpers will help you, many of them will even pay your lost ship if they see you are just starting.

Another advice is to avoid waiting in a fw plex for having a fight with an standar fit, they will throw you his best counter for your ship, attack the plexes.

You should join a pvp corp so they can teach you, but keep doing solo pvp is the only way to get the experience, pvp in this game is difficult and at the same time really rewarding IMO.

Once you taste the blood it will not be turning back :).

Fly dangerouse.

Thanks guys for the answers. I didn't have a lot of time to play the last cpl of days. But I purchased a bunch of Condor's and fitted them with a mix of T1 and meta modules to work with my current skills (missiles/rockets). I only had time for one short little roam but I actually landed my first killmail. Poor Atron, probably just as green as myself so nothing to write home about but fun nonetheless Big smile

To my original question, I decided to make my first std. fit cheap and buy a bunch of those modules. Think this first Condor version is around 3M all in. And all the modules are easy to source/buy in bulk

In some ways your engagement profile can actually increase...
