I am going to be honest with you. I could go Navy Scorpion, but I want to fit a Navy Megathron because it's sexy. A shallow reason, I know. But, the Navy Megathron fitting is a whole new experience for me.... very different from the Caladari stuff I'm used to.

Please help. I know there's a thread on Navy Megathron fits, but it's from a dude who insisted on an improved shield fit. I come with no demands. How do I fit this thing properly for level 4 missions?

Minutes after posting this, I purchased this in Jita:

[Megathron Navy Issue, [TG] TAIO]
Energized Explosive Membrane II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

Salvage Drone I x5
Light Armor Maintenance Bot I x4

Javelin L x14244

Any suggestions and recommends would be greatly appreciated.

I would opt for a Deadspace Core X-Type large armor repairer, ditch the damage control for a reactive armor hardener and go with a capacitor power relay instead of the explosive membrane. The reactive armor hardener compensates for the explosive hole on those missions where it's needed (you'll shield tank a lot of explosive damage). You should not need more than 4 tank modules total.

In the mids go for a Faction or Deadspace MWD for less cap penalty and at least two range-scripted tracking computers. For the fourth mid slot either a large cap battery or resolution-scripted sensor booster. A T2 auto targeting system will give you a passive +3 target bonus.

Scrap all the rigs. The T1 aerator rig is only giving you +2-3% DPS and you can get that with a single Faction magnetic field stabilizer instead. I'd go for a T2 falloff, T2 optimal and T1 tracking rig setup instead (this will give you another 20% overall range and 15% more tracking speed). You have more than enough tank that you shouldn't be concerned about cap stability, and you should get around 10 minutes from the Deadspace armor repairer (which you can also easily overheat). If cap stability is a concern drop the large cap battery and run a cap booster with Navy 800 cap boosters.

Drones are personal preference but since you can't repair yourself I'd ditch the maintenance drones and go with 5x T2 Wardens, 5x T2 Hobgoblins and 5x salvage drones. If you plan to snipe a lot you can drop the T2 auto targeting system for a T2 drone link augmentor instead. You can also drop the T2 capacitor power relay for a T2 drone damage amplifier, too.
.....

I run a Machariel, btw - but utilize everything in the first 3 paragraphs with my fit.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Not cap stable so don't try. Burst tank setup with MWD for getting around faster, MJD for covering long distances and for getting range if needed. Med cap booster for the burst tank and a tractor beam for again saving time when scooping the mission objective.

It has 4 minutes with the guns shooting, this should be enough time to work (the good fits generally have around 4-5 min cap) and the sentries add to your firepower more than normal drones seeing as you are going for long range, just don't forget them when you mjd. The bling is amazingly cheap, rigs are there to bolster your repping power and make everything fit.

Tank wise you swap out the two hardeners depending on the mission rats you are facing so you can max your tank for the mission at hand. Try not to fill your cargo with cap boosters as you need that space for the mission item, always bring 2x flights of light drones just in case but your MJD will get you out of trouble (rats do not scram)

baltec1, don't you think that fit is a tad overtanked? A pair of T2 or Faction EANMs is probably more than enough for the vast majority of L4 missions without needing to have two active modules that need to be swapped out. You're devoting 5 low and 2 rig slots to tank. Also, with rails is the LMJD really needed? (along with the overclocking rig) You've only got a single tracking computer and nothing else to improve range or damage application.

Why not go with a vindi since the base hull price is lower?

Except ditch the LMJD. With a MWD and rails you don't need to be jumping around. Also frees up the overclocking rigs...

Have to fiddle more with it. A single CPU rig without the LMJD leaves you with only 19.41 CPU and a mid open.

Run a Faction mag stab or two. I guess a Genolution set or CPU implant might also work. I personally like the idea of just running the Vindicator...

So... keeping in mind I need some level 5 in some key areas (I've got my EVE Mon plan and I'm working on it), here is what is currently working for me. I'm handling L4 missions fairly well and it will improve as my skills do. Of course, if you have further suggestions and recommends, please let me know. The fit suggests y'all gave were extremely helpful.

your revised fit looks alright, I'd probably swap the drone link augmentor for a tractor beam. I don't like letting drones get that far out, I only recommend DLAs for sentries as they can hit past 60km. Also not sold on the rigs, but don't have a great suggestion otherwise.

I really like the vindi, it is just very constrained on CPU, although I think I made this fit before the CPU rigs were a thing. my in game fit also had a t2 rof rig and a t1 lock range rig, as the vindi used to have absurdly short lock range. Since all the bling is needed for cpu purposes swapping to a cpu rig would probably free up enough to make it far cheaper.

pirate ship bpcs drop from commander spawns and in escalations so there is a large supply of pirate battleship bpcs, prices have been steadily dropping for a while now. Navy ships pretty much only come from LP stores, and there is usually better stuff to buy

Best over tank it until you get used to it.

LMJD comes in very handy for those 60km hikes to the next warp gate plus gets you a get out of jail free card.

Damage application should be fine, shoot the small stuff first as it burns directly towards you
