This is crazy right?
Probably throwing away 245mill

Im getting a bit board with exploration and was considering camping sites and ganking other explorers.
My experience with pvp in eve is none, And my skills are on the low side.

This is not a final fit but something im working on.
Please give me your thoughts.

Im sure most of you reading this are laughing at this fit, And i dont blame you, Im still tying to figure out how to best fit my ships.
And yes i am aware i should practice a bit in a cheaper ship to get my pvp experience up before using a expensive ship.

Thanks..

1 - join a corp that can teach you
2 - pass hours on simulator :P (pyfa is better than ingame simulator)
3 - post should be in ships&module section
4 - you don't need a double tank (shield and armor), drop the shield booster for a cap booster
5 - medium neuts in the highs slots
6 - improve your drones skills :)

but yea... you can try even like that and seeing how it goes
the important part, as always, is having fun!

good luck Blink

EDIT: personally i wouldn't gank with that stratios :)

I wouldn't use the Stratios until you can at least use T2 medium drones.

Astero with T2 lights would be a good hunter ship for most explorer frigates. You want T2 light drones and T2 drone damage mod for best effect.

Soel's advice of joining a corp would be sound advice. If you like lowsec, try one of the Faction Warfare corps, or possibly one of the pvp lowsec groups.

It's not crazy, just go out and do it! Fly on the edge of your seat and always bet on them being as unsure and skittish as you Smile

Don't wait for T2 anything, I never did. The navy faction drones have the same stats as the T2 versions they just cost a little more is all.

Totally this.

Most people you end up engaging won't be looking for pvp, so a low DPS ship will still be more than they'll have.

Just wait until they are hacking before you decloak as you'll have a 5 second delay before you can lock them + the lock time, so you want them focused on something else, rather than warping out before you can point/scram them.

Edit:

Some tips on your fit though:

1. Don't dual tank your Stratios. It won't help you against anyone who wants to fight you and it is only hurting you.

My suggestion: drop the armour tank and go with the shield instead. Switch one of your scrams for a shield extender, the shield booster for an adaptive invul, then switch the plate and armor repairer for more drone damage amps.

That will increase your speed and DPS. The loss of a scram might cause you to lose the occasional stabbed explorer, but it shouldn't be too bad.

2. Add rigs

Throw in some shield rigs, or CPU rigs if you need it when you change the fit

3. throw neuts in the highs

That will give you some defensive GTFO capability against someone that might be able to fight you and/or ability to prevent them getting out of scram range if they are AB fit.

Alternatively go with the armor tank and throw a cap battery or booster into the midslot where you currently have the shield overload.

Stratios is a drone boat with neuts. If you are putting medium lasers on it, you are doing it wrong.

Astero or rocket bomber would be more effective at hunting explorers because of the quicker lock time. They're not generally gonna fight back anyway.

From my experience as the unarmed an alpha explorer prey..

The trickier ones place a jetcan when they warp to 0 to decloak you, so make bookmarks elsewhere for approaching. Patrol a few systems with marked sites - the target will be more lulled if he arrives to the system first. You want him to pick some containers first - you want loot, makes killmail prettier, and hacking may disrupt the target for a crucial second or two.

A clueless target will start picking the loot in order of distance, sometimes even standing still. You can patiently wait at the farthest one, so he can slowly bring it all to you.

Though if you see multiple jetcans, and a guy orbiting the richest box on 4800m at 500m/s... Attack. He already has loot, or will warp out after getting some.

(hope by 'ganking' you meant unconsentual low/nullsec pvp, and not highsec ganking somene's first Imicus for 245mil P )

Astero is the ship you want if you want to start ganking explorers and can afford the 100M ship cost. It will teach you all the fundamentals of approach, preload, range control, drone management, overheat. Astero vs. Astero fights can last long enough to make it interesting. Be sure to review each fight to learn what mistakes you made and should correct next time. Before long you'll be hoping the target is combat fit and fights back.

The stratios takes too long to decloak and target lock most frigates. It's better suited for bigger targets like site running tengu's.

Another consideration is you can wait a LONG time for a target. Better to just explore in the astero and be ready to setup a trap when you realize another explorer is operating in the same area.

Another ship to consider is the Stealth Bomber that does not have a decloak delay, but is much more in danger from a frigate that fights back.
