Playing Eve with a touchscreen monitor?

So Ive been out of the game for some time, I love the pvp in this game but I have only justified to myself to play off and on (mostly off) since finding Eve. As a casual player it is a time sink to organize fleets and roam to find decent small gang pvp. I started my pvp as a solo pilot as I liked being able to log on for an hour of real life down time and spend it playing cat and mouse hunting for the rush of high risk content, with out the logistics of fleet organization (if you can even find the right corp that fits your play style, personality and strategy/tactics). Don't get me wrong, I loved the challenge of being hunted down by the "blob", it made the kills that much sweeter if you could use their over confidence and greed against them to in some way balance out their overwhelming technical and numerical advantage. However it seemed that finding engageable prey became a longer and longer roam. I crossed paths with less solo pilots, the gangs seemed to get larger and larger, and new ships being fielded and game mechanics seemed to weed out the possibility of finding solo pvp content as casual player with only an hour or so here and there of play time. I did have the fortune of being invited to join a corporation that fit my play style very well (The Hull Miners Union), with a lot of fast small gang action, 2-12 ships, along side some very skilled pilots and FCs, but nothing lasts forever... All of this equals to more travel > more mouse use > more clicks. Already having a preference for Minmitar ships and manual piloting leaves me with a concern for a repetitive use injury. Being involved in other competitive sporting activities this is something I already have to be mindful of, and avoid. With the combination of realizing faction warfare might be a good fit for a player like me and the advent of touchscreen monitors, not only to avoid such an injury but the possibility to add some very engaging play for manual piloting, I am once again considering getting back in the fight.

FAST FORWARD TO MY POINT

Is anyone using touchscreen desktop monitors to play eve?
How responsive are they?
Can you pvp? pve?
Are they even useable for Eve?

Thank you for any feedback regarding their use.

If your posting on your keyboard is any indication of your abilities, I'd say go with a touch screen.

It's useable in that it's just an input device.

In practice on a HP all in one, I've never found it useful. Maybe that I'm far too comfortable with a mouse than using a touchscreen, but it just hasn't been very practical and is slower than sticking with what I already know.

I have used a touchscreen for EVE.

I switched back to a mouse because...
- it was faster to do things
- my screen stayed cleaner
- I could do things one-handed again (big plus)
- my forearms were beginning to look like something from Popeye the Sailorman

Some touchscreens don't play nice with fullscreen games - you might have to run in window or borderless window mode. On my older Windows 8 tablet I couldn't get it to accept touch input to Eve for some reason at all no matter what I did (worked in other games) - ended up having to hook up a keyboard and mouse to experiment on there - not tried my newer Windows 10 tablet to see if that works.

Thanks for the info. My interest is pertaining to touchscreen monitors for desktops though.

I don't have one of those, so I can't say how well it would work. But wouldn't playing with a desktop touch screen be rather tiring?

Using a touchscreen in EVE is ship spinning in space. You do get a fast overview of your surroundings though. If you can stomach it.

Remove standings and insurance.

Depending on the system, either two finger tapping (really crap approach for EVE....I tried it), or generally there is a button on the keyboard that activates right-click instead of left click.

On my system it's the right-function (Windows key) on the keyboard. Press that, then touch the screen = right click menu options.

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. Yes french fries are easy to eat with your fingers. Spaghetti bolognese, not so much.

I was covering both touchscreen monitors/aios where I've had it working albeit sometimes having to mess about with fullscreen/window mode and tablets where its been a bit tricky getting Eve to accept input at all - I'm guessing comes down to the different brand drivers. Can't say I've ever done much more than logging in to autopilot or check POS fuel on a touchscreen device though so not sure what its like to actually play.

Maybe that's how it is at the trailer park. I certainly knew how to use a knife and fork by the time I was 6, and so did my children.

I need to try this on the wife's laptop.

Side story: Wife plays WoW. First night she was playing with new laptop I asked he how it was going. She said, "The new graphics were awesome, look at that boss over there..." (and then she touched the screen).

Arrow flies, pet attacks...

Total wipe.

I laughed so hard I thought I'd puke.

Wife yelled at me to disable touchscreen.

Wife. Don't talk to me about wife.

I haven't tried in a while mostly because the last time I did it was awful. trying to click on UI elements creates unreliable input. The game expects a mouse over event before a click event, so when you tap it doesn't quite know what to do with the tap.

that said it is pretty nice for ship spinning

I've been using a Braille Monitor for the past couple of years and it's really improved my game play. Far better than a touch screen.

Just don't cry on the forums if you suddenly died to an avatar doing a drive by doomsday on your rookie ship because the cheetos stain blocked the overview and other stuff.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Touchscreen on my laptop. I don't really bother because it's awkward and cumbersome. I believe there are some focus issues, like if you want to switch chat tabs but have something else selected, you have to tap it twice, and hope you actually hit it both times and don't accidentally drag it out. And then one of the oldest problems in EVE makes it nearly impossible: screen real estate. You get all the information crammed onto your screen and suddenly everything is too small to hit with the inaccuracies of touch screens. So yeah, it can technically be done, but it's not a great idea.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.
