they cound not get it remotely done in time for the intended launch but decided to go ahead with the micro transaction part so we could give them money in a subscription game to dress up our avatars in $60 monoclonals and boots no one could see. they then told us they would get to the WIS part later and were working hard on it despite the balance issues rampant in the rest of the game. This pissed enough of us off that many instantly unsubbed and those who didn't joined in on demonstrations within the game. the overall loss in revenue nearly killed CCP and were it not for the CSM it very well may have.

basically sore subject that CCP is not going to go near with a 10km pole and many of us who were there don't even want them to think about it. Eve is internet space ships CCP should focus more on them rather than barbie

The reason for the mass unsubs is not WiS.

Yes I agree the Incarna Expansion failed to deliver the WiS that was promised years ago known as Ambulation. At that time only a small part of the CCP staff was actually working on Incarna. Since the playerbase was raging about no expansions being released, CCP went ahead and released the content they had available even though it wasn't ready. WiS wasn't 'The straw that broke the Camel's back'. The Incarna Expansion and events resulting afterwards combined with problems previously active in-game is what helped ignite the mass unsubs.

Those mass unsubs were due to a lot of different things listed here in no particular order.

CCP constantly rushing out numerous expansions that were half finished and bugged, breaking existing content.
The 1001 Papercuts thread - large list of broken game mechanics and unfinished content being ignored since 2003.
CCP introducing NEX Store and MT - selling overpriced items for real money bypassing in-game player production.
Threat of 'Gold Ammo' and 'Gold Ships' enabling 'Pay to Win' exploitation.
CCP dividing available development resources to work on 3 different projects at same time.
The leaked inter-office memo 'Fearless Newsletter' = Greed is good.
CCP statement of Eve Online being viewed as the Golden Goose.
Forcing 3rd party programmers to pay real money for providing out of game Eve applications.
CCP failure to maintain their promise of 'Commitment to Excellence' on all future game content.
Showing players 'The Door' and removing option of choice, forcing player participation in Captains Quarters.
CCP attempting to diffuse Forum rage with excessive thread locking and banned accounts.
Releasing poorly written unoptimized code in the Incarna expansion resulting in massive client side issues.
CCP ignoring the player base resulting in poor Public Relations due to lack of communication.
Hilmar's statement - "Watch what they do, not what they say."

Basically Hilmar's statement became the rally cry for those mass unsubs. Because of that and with a large loan payment being due, CCP downsized their Company and placed most of their other projects on the back burner which included Avatar game play content. Later when CCP tried to generate game play for that content, they received large opposition by a vocal minority who once again started fanning the flames of the infamous 'Summer Of Rage'. As such CCP backed off again due to not wanting to incite another repeat of that situation. Basically CCP is gun shy now when it comes to Avatar game play content.

Also players seem to conveniently forget that for 18 months prior to Incarna most of the CCP Dev's were working on rewriting Eve's program code, changing it from Python to Carbon which currently allows Dev's to quickly change things and fix / remove bugs from the game. CCP's mistake was that they didn't keep the players informed about it. And it takes longer for new Dev's to figure out the old code and then replace it with new code, all the while still keeping the game online.

Eve Online was created with the intention of being a Virtual Reality set in a Futuristic SyFy Space Environment. That means more than just space ships.

... my point was WiS and this are tied symbolically both by players and CCP staff not the initial shell of a relies caused this.

I don't really care about WiS. All I want is a cage where I can keep and feed my pet Fedo.

Will we ever be able to meet other EVE players in stations? I thought this was a great concept, what happened to it? Straight

The whole EVE WIS bar thing creeps the hell out of me.

Even if it existed, I would never go there.

It'll never happen, but I've got a feeling if CCP had pitched it differently, with less socialising and more conflict, that the player community would have accepted it. CCP have wasted so much effort and time on projects like dust or Valkyrie which were supposed to somehow connect in with the eve universe. Now the demand is there or first person combat, but why can't that happen in eve, on ships, stations, and planets. CCP could have killed two birds with one stone by implementing dust like combat in eve.

short answer NO.

Never going to happen, CCP got burnt with the response to Failcana and have moved on to other things.
The Spaceship Barbies keep these threads happening at least once a month and the answer is still NO.

It more than likely won't happen for Eve, however, there is a much greater chance of it being built for one of the other CCP IPs being developed in Unreal Engine 4 (Gunjack, Valkyrie, or Project Nova).

If you recall, CCP did build the Event Horizon Lounge for Dust 514 in PlayStation Home. Both properties no longer exist and are not coming back.

The inexplicable choice to make DUST non-PC, and not integrate it further into EVE, angers me more than the losses of WiS.

Im legit furious about DUST.
Such a huge waste of an opportunity with so much potential.

Im glad EVE still persists, cos such rote, complete, unmitigated failure would/should usually bury a developer house.

However, I am philosophically opposed on the basis that a space MMO should drive players toward . . . space. Not toward a bar in a station.

a lot of eve players are narrow-minded just like ccp

WIS.. should be WIC.. walking in citadels.. its even more stupid now to not have backgrounds I can walk in and interact with (tv, monitor panel, ship fitting, looking at the expensive fawking clothing the NES provides..

its just stupid now what ccp has done..

what purpose does clothing for avatars serve now??

ccp blocked the entire body of a character on the character sheet.

no one will be able to stand next to you and look at your gear since things like.. jumping and walking in a station is freaking hard for a internet spaceship mmo..ffs... Roll

the eve community chitted on the idea, cause again they wanted focus to be about ships... yet the terrible lacking of what could be done has just held this game back.. I simply can not wait till star citizen is complete.. yes I said a bad word.. there goes the last fawk I give as well..

you can have this simple gang pack game all you want to..

I want to walk around, I want to walk into my ship.. I want to look at my gear I spend AUR on and perhaps even meet with a friend in station and interact with.. eve online after 13+ years still cant fix that... its right up there with AFK cloaky camping..another thing they refuse to fix.. after all of this.. I end my rant (which many have repeated the same thing and will be doing the same thing)

I cant wait to leave this fawked up, broke as lame game, you guys are too extremely stuck in the past and cant even move forward because that takes too much work to do.. don't care no more.. just don't care..

Such a huge waste.

It's not like they threw out all the assets.

To recap, CCP floundered with Sony's seed money to build a shoddy shooter with little clear focus in the initial stages. After cycling through project directors they found a capable guy from the accounting department of all places, CCP Rattati, who (with his hard on for Excel Spreadsheets) led a monthly iterative project development cycle (that you now see CCP Reykjavik using). Alas, by the time it got to Rattati, the Frankenstein cobble-work of UE3 that prior devs mustered to make Dust 514 work on PS3 was too broken to make a further a functioning product on (see the failure of Eve Legion). And with PS3 on the end of it's console cycle any further development down that path would be fruitless.

CCP Rattati now heads the development of Project Nova, the for PC, FPS experience that hopefully takes things learned in the development of Dust to build a great shooter first before deeply branching into connection with Eve. This approach seems to be working for Valkyrie.

That's not what I asked you.

I mean, it's your life to waste playing a video game you don't like made by people you can't stand. I just find it weird that people do that, it's like you LIKE being angry.

The biggest problem that I see with WiS. Is that its a catch 22 situation.

It is a feature that only a portion of the playerbase wants and has any interest in at all. because of that, without adding any sort of meaningful content, most people will not use it, making it a waste of development time. If they do add content to it, they would need to either make it optional, which will still result in most people opting out (continuing the waste of dev time) or they will make it necessary to the game, which would push players to engage in it... but make people resent it at the same time (like when they forced everyone into the CC)

So no matter what they do with it, it will end up being either a huge waste of time and money because only a small percentage of the players will even bother with it. or they will just upset people by forcing them to engage in something they have no interest in.

its not a small number. its a large number especially once "hangers" become a cool thing to have in another game..

its a must-have!

I know lots of people here will hate on me for this, but honestly look at star citizen and tell me you wouldn't love if eve looked / played similarly. CCP have had many years to improve the game to that level, but they'd limited themselves with a mindset that code is fixed. I've never heard other developers hold off on requested changes because of 'legacy code'. You guys write the code, it might be a hassle but surly it's your job to rewrite it if necessary. Many of the recent improvements have been much-a-do about nothing. I mean, the huge ascension expansion, it added what? Free to play? Not exactly a thing much of value for existing players. A smart business decision, sure, but not really an expansion.
