Wouldn't mean a damn thing. People would just exploit them, letting their alliances pod them and podding their buddies to get those achievements. The only way you could possibly even think about implementing something like this is by making it exclusive to PvE, and thus remove the ability to exploit it. Most people wouldn't bother then.

So are kill boards, but I still see plenty of them around.

I don't see why an achievement system is so bad. Like the certificate system, just bury it so it's not in everyone's face. Those who groove on that kind of stuff can admire themselves and those who don't just never click that link.

Please never post again OP, you are not very good at it. And it has nothing to do with your English skills.

If there were no kill boards, we'd just find another way to brag & reflect on our kills.

OP I 200% agree with you. Achievements are the kind of things that get you attached to your char, time investment and stuff. And character attachment is one of those things that makes you stick around or come back again to a game when you are a MMO player.

See, in Eve it's called Skills and Skill Points. Doh!

Wow-eske achieves aren't a good idea...

the GENERAL idea is okay, remember sandbox..., i like the idea of extending medals, for example my corp is currently giving out medals for the people who join in the first 6 months of creation...

perhaps as stated previously maybe epic arcs give presentable medals as well as other special missions giving them out too...
THOSE are achieves!

id say something like "you guys are friggen Aholes for being so mean to new ideas, bad or good..." but then again mittens is CSM chairman so.... P

DMC, what do you think an achievement system would add to the game? From my own experience with WoW, not only do achievements prompt players to waste literally months doing stupid things, but they also cause friction within guilds/corps as achievement whores try to pressure their mates to help them get ever more achievements. Endlessly.

I was referring mainly to the OP's idea about getting Medals that show in the character info box. There's already an achievement system in-game which I had mentioned earlier.

The game itself gives various objectives to complete which are known as missions. Cosmos, Factional Warfare, Epic Arcs, Storyline and regular agents all give various objectives or 'quests' to complete. The main reward or achievement for completing those missions, besides the usual ISK and various items, is a standing increase with the Faction, Corporation and Agent. All standings used to be easily seen in the standings tab of the character info box. Since that option was recently removed by CCP, I see no problem in having Medals represent some of those achievements.

As I stated earlier, the game already gives out a few different Medals for completing some of those missions. Unfortunately those just sit in the Items Hangar. Adding a few more Medals to the game and allowing them all to be viewed in the character info box for all to see isn't going to break the game. It actually adds a bit more content to the game and also serves to enrich the role playing aspect of the game by allowing players to show off their accomplishments.

Of course each Medal gained for completion would only be received once in the life of the character. This is just an idea:

Career Agents - One Medal for each Career mission series completed.
Cosmos Agents - One Medal for each Faction's set of agents completed.
Epic Arc Agents - One Medal for each Epic Arc completed.
Concord Agents - One Medal for each agent completed.
Faction Standing - One Medal for each Faction at +10 standing.
Factional Warfare - One Medal for each rank gained.

actually for career agents they serve as excellent proof of basic training, other than certificates, i think for FW they already have ranks which count for "medals", a medal for standings sounds like a worthy reward seeing how much of a grind it is.
im not sure why CCP doesn't think about this..., i bet if CSM brought it up THEN CCP would listen

Maybe a bit harsh, but achievements are a staple of WoW and WoW clones.
