why no auto targeting assault missiles?

as above it would seem light,heavy and cruise have auto targeting but not assault

why?

Same reason why rockets and torpedoes don't have auto-targeting either. The harder-hitting missile types in each tier are not meant to be ECM counters.

MIssiles used to be split into Guided and Unguided types, the LIghts/Heavies/Cruise focused towards hitting reliably, Rockets/HAMs/Torps towards doing better damage but with shite application and range. Suppose FOF fit in better with the former than the latter.

Aren't they utterly broken anyway? IIRC when I was new tried doing missions with them and they shot structures and rocks and stuff.
