Carriers

I am wondering how carriers work, compared to years ago.

1) Can drones still be assigned to other people?

2) DCUs seem to have been removed, and now the thanatos has launch tubes and squad limits. How many drones can a carrier deploy?

3) What kind of DPS can a thanatos/nidhog achieve? In EFT with 9 drones, I'm only at 500ish DPS with Firbolg IIs. Seems rather pathetic?

1. No.
2. None.
3. You may need to update your version of EFT or pfya, because carriers can only deploy fighters now (if memory serves, most carriers have well over 1500 DPS).

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

A fighter is still a drone. I also noted that 9 T2 Firbolgs = 500ish DPS. I installed EFT yesterday.

1a. Nope. The same applies to normal ships too. No more drone assist.

2a. A carrier can launch 3 "squadrons" of 9 ships each.
Each "squadron" will behave in a manner similar to a single drone... with each fighter in a "squadron" behaving like drone's HP... except each fighter destroyed means the "squadron" as a whole deals less damage.

Also look into Drone Damage Amplifiers and Omnidirectional Tracking Links do affect Fighter stats (more damage and more range/tracking... respectively).

3a. Easily 1000 dps. There are some "full DPS" fits that claim to get more than 2000-2500 DPS.
However they will not be particularly effective against anything smaller than a cruiser / battlecruiser.

There are also a few other things to note:

- No more Triage Mode. Carriers are basically gigantic drone ships with a jump drive now.

- There is a mod called the (aw crap... I can't remember the name of it) that drastically increases your targeting speed and boosts fighter damage slightly.... but blocks Remote Reps and prevents you from using any form of Electronic Warfare.

most ratting carriers are going to be over 3k dps with decent skills.

depending on the fit, but i've seen a ratting carrier blap Interceptors off the grid while the ceptor was running 4km/s. i've personally had mine leave a malediction on 8% structure with one volley from 2 flights of T1 fighters. they both were "glancing" hits but it was still applying damage to a 'ceptor running over 3km/s.

iirc the Nidhogger can break the 4k DPS mark with T2 fighters, and faction DDA's

Networked sensor array.

Also note that carriers can use fighter-only high slot rate of fire modules called fighter support units.

maybe if you're using officer mods, WITH the missile attack (which cuts dps to 0 for ~30s when they're empty)
for a sane setup 2k dps with just the guns is good enough

Niddy gets a fighter damage and fighter velocity bonus so it seems to be the king of ratting carriers. This seems like a pretty typical ratting fit, pretty much max damage and application with a little shield buffer.

Eft has it at 4511 with firblogs and both weapons active, pyfa puts it at 4070. Eft doesn't seem to be getting updates so I'd be a bit more trusting of the pyfa numbers, Einherjis are 3327dps, and the others are somewhere in the middle.

running without a local rep for ratting isn't the greatest idea. it kinda kills your ticks when you have to go and dock back up / tether to recharge shields. plus if you do get tackled by actual enemies the rep can keep you alive for long enough to hopefully get a QRF up and supporting the tackled carrier.

of course if you live next to PL who like to drop Rorqs on EVERYTHING, then it doesn't really matter too much :P
