Question about new Exploration mechanics?

Been quite a long time since I've played, but thought I might as well ask this before I get back in. Exploration was always my biggest thing in the game, and someone mentioned that they've added and expanded the Exploration system in the game alot since I last played (I stopped shortly after the Sisters of EVE Ship line, Nestor and the like, was released). Anyone able to tell me HOW exactly? One of the biggest things they did mention, that I am not real sure about, was something that made exploration alot safer, something like taking actions while still cloaked or the like.

There are no such actions. You must decloak to do anything apart from d-scan.
There were some changes to maps and probe scanner but nothing serious.
Combat recons don't show on d-scan now.

You have to be uncloaked to launch your probes however you can scan out all the signatures while cloaked. You can also recall your probes while cloaked. Also probes do NOT de-cloak you.

I figured that, but that was just an example of things I've heard. I am asking about what has actually changed or been added.

The mechanics of probing were changed a few years ago, this is probably what you are referred to.

1) You now launch all 8 probes at once, instead of one by one. This reduces the time spent decloaked launching your probes, and the cool down of your cloak is now the limiting factor.
2) Everyone can now use eight probes, regardless of skill factor. It used to be the number of probes was increased by the astrometric skill.
3) The click and drag mechanics of moving your probes as a group have been simplified and are now the default action without any modifier keys (contrary to what some people claim, you could move your probes as a group before the changes but this relied on mostly undocumented use of shift and ctrl modifiers.) As such most people find probing a lot quicker and easier (perhaps too much so.)

About a year or so ago, the probing map was also given an update. It was made prettier but most of the mechanics have remained relatively unchanged except for one thing: you can now choose to also show your d-scan cone in the probe map. While this mostly clutters up the interface when scanning down signatures, it can be incredibly useful in pvp when scanning down ships.

Hummm, that's not it either, I remember that. I left just a little After the Sisters of EVE Exploration ships where released. I wounder what they where talking about then? did they change up the way the sites themselves work? or add new sites other than those timed one?
EDIT: Or new mechanics entirely?

What I did when I came back to the game was get in an explorer that was lying around and reacquainted myself with how to do exploring in high sec before heading off to null. I recommend that approach.

Biggest change you'll notice is:

1. Change to the hacking mini game. There are now numbers that indicate how far away you are from something. You can use them to get an idea of where you should be going to find the core

2. No loot spew mechanic. Once you hack the container, you can just open and loot it, rather than race to grab bits and pieces from space

3. Scanning modules (eg. Pinpoint array, etc.) only provide their benefit if you probe decloaked. Not really an issue most of the time, probing cloaked works fine, however if you have any arrays fitted to your ship, probing decloaked from a safe is useful.

Edit:
Maybe Ghost sites too. They were introduced some time around the SOE ships, but could have been afterwards. They are harder to scan and have a few surprises.

I think this was a change at some point, I've never devoted all that much time to exploration to be sure:

4. All combat sites are anoms, while data/relic sites don't have any NPCs in them, aside from the highest difficulty ones, of which I believe there are a few different types.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.
