New Gas Harvesting Hull (Hinted at in CSM 11 minutes)

Aight people, so we have this little bundle of joy that stumbled upon my wormholer eyes:

Alright, with that in mind, what would you love most?

Idea 1: The Sloppy Manatee

  • I want 5 turret hardpoints, range bonused for gas.
  • 6 highs (for that extra probe launcher)
  • HUGE hold. Like, 90'000m3 base.
  • Bulky, clumsy looking, like a natural gas tanker (bonus points if you fit those spherical tanks onto the hull). Handles like an Orca, sized like a Porpoise.
  • Tank-bonused drones, 20 MBPS

Here's the kicker: Make it only have 1 mid, so you have to choose between fitting into frig holes or fitting armor plates. (Make the regular hold so small you'd have to gimp your fit with expanded cargoholds to carry a deployable)


Okay, now I have this idea for a ship that everyone will hate:

Idea 2: The Lazy Narwahl

  • I want 5 (unbonused?) turret hardpoints (again), 7 highs
  • Ship shaped like a giant balloon. Super filmsy armor and structure. Giant Sig, low mass (maybe even for frig holes, not sure), terrible agility.
  • MASSIVE HOLD (150'000m3+, secondary purpose as a high risk hauler?)
  • Mining Turrets and GCH are range-penalized by ~50% (wait, don't go!)
  • Can use gas cloud harvesters and mining lasers while cloaked.

Something which tanked kind of like a procurer might be interesting if you hold space with gas in it.

If' you're ninja-mining gas in a wormhole properly, you don't care if the gas harvesters have zero range. You're inside the cloud so anything cloaky wanting to sneak up and scram you will get decloaked by the cloud. It buys you reaction time.

I want a whale shark style ship with a large open bay in the front, and full of grinders and such.
You fly around in dust/gas clouds in big slow sweeping passes with no need for turrets, just sucking everything up.

Putting a big hold on a gas harvesting ship is almost entirely pointless, with just a 90km3 hold you could fit the contents of 15-30 gas sites, which is more than anyone is ever going to mine in one sitting. Gas harvesting in general prioritizes speed over hold size pretty much every time since it's generally done in low sec and wormhole space.

The only thing the Prospect doesn't offer that a gas huffer might want is the ability to swat Sleeper rats off grid or defend against pirates.

Give me a ship that can fit bonused drones and gas harvesters and then I'll use it over the Prospect, or a Prospect with more gas huffing capacity. Otherwise why would I ever want to use either of these when they're basically giant worthless gank targets?

I actually use the Nestor in our C3, sooooo... I'm a sucker for overspecialized hulls. I also use the Echelon to run ghost sites when drunk...
