Returning as Alpha

Can someone please help me out? I'm returning, but am a bit hesitant to log in as alpha, as I have a lot of assets and it's not clear to me what will happen to some of them.

First: My main is logged off in space in a ship not my race. What will happen there? Can I just dock it and switch ships?

Second; I have more than 21 ships in all my accounts iirc, as I stocked cyno's and what not all over the uni, what will happen to the excess ships? Not feeling much for losing a couple of billion in ships just because I wanted to log in again.

Third; I have a transport character that holds a ton of ships, none are his race but the Charon itself, can those still be traded back to the characters that can fly them? Or are they completely locked/erased?

Fourth: Skill points will only be locked out right? So I still have about 90M SP, but I can only use weapons and ships that are Amarr on my main? If this exceeds the limit (players keep saying this, even though there is nothing on a cap in the dev notes on alpha clones), what skills will be locked out?

I just hope PLEX stabilised around 1B, when I started they were about 250M xD When I left they were around 950M.

I did read the page on the Alpha clones, but it couldn't answer these specific questions I found. (Or I'm a ****** at reading, could go either way :P)

Thanks for any help in any case!

Cheers,

I think it will spawn you in the nearest friendly station on login, the ships that are not your race will not be accessible to you. Just like if you didnt have the skills to pilot them.

You can fly your ship if you are in space but you cannot use any of the tech II mods and once you land you cannot fly that ship again. plus it loses all its bonuses.

I think thats correct

This is not quite right.

OP will be able to login and fly in his existing ship so he can dock. All Omega only modules will be offline though.

Once docked, he can't fly ships that require Omega, but they are still there, perfectly accessible in every other way (eg. To trade or sell).

This dev blog has the answers to most of the questions you've asked (including what happens if you're logged out in a ship you can't fly with alpha skills, as well as a complete list of the maximum skill levels you can access as an alpha for each race.)

It's possible there might be some minor differences between the current alpha skill limits and what are listed in that blog, since that was pre-release information. However, it should give you a good idea of what to expect.

all your assets are fine, the whole fly 21 ships is just saying there are 21 ships alphas can fly, it has nothing to do with a limit on the number of ships you can have.

if your main is undocked I believe they can use the ship well enough to go dock up, but likely won't be alble to use anything on it as those skills will probably be alpha locked.

I believe those are the main points, for more details that dev blog Darwin posted is very good.

You will however need to read the blog 2 or 3 times as the first read is about as clear as mud.

Suggestion for OP; Don't try to read and absorb the whole blog. Stick to what relates to you.

In a nushell (which I'm not surprised our friendly? Dev didn't bother with).
You can log in and dock the ship you logged out in space in, regardless of what race or skill requirements.
You will not be able to activate any of the modules on it (unless it is T1 amarr fit)

CCP Darwin; You did read the part where the OP said he or she had read the blog and was unsure - I mean that blog is about as clear as mud at first and second glance.
Like many Dev blogs, there is just too much information in a very reader unfriendly layout.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.

You will spawn in space in whatever ship you're currently in, when you dock it will tell you you dont have the skills to fly that ship and you won't be able to unlock until you leave that ship or it just kicks you out.

I dont remember. My harbinger was okay, it's sitting in a hanger fine right now. Your assets are untouched, you can strip ships and simulate fits for them but you can't actually get into the ships and got them. It wont let you out put your capsule in it.

She said she had read the "page on alpha clones," and since that blog answers her specific questions, I figured she was referring to a different document.

Welcome back, Funchy!

Our Customer Support team has compiled a good article on the EVE Help Center, it contains a lot of valuable information: Alpha Clones and Omega Clones lapsing - Quick Facts

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes, you can fly your currently boarded ship and dock, even if you don't have the skills for it due to the Alpha restrictions. No skill bonuses will apply to the ship though.

  2. You keep all your assets.

  3. Yes, you can trade your assets to other characters. Nothing is being locked or even erased. You simply cannot fly those ships because you don' have the skills for it. Imagine you are a young (Omega) character without any skills. You still could purchase all sort of expensive items/ships which you cannot use at this point due to skill restrictions - same situation here.

  4. All skills which are not listed in the dev blog, won't show an effect. As soon as you switch your account back to Omega, those skills will be there for you again. You don't lose skillpoints or skills if your Omega account lapses, all skills that are not in the Alpha skillset will simply be treated as not being there as long as your are on an Alpha account.

Hopefully those answers are of help.

I returned after leaving in about 2009 or 2010.

I have found that on my main account, the avatar - my FACE - that was stolen from me has not been returned, so I cannot even gain access to that character without creating a face that is not his/mine. I'm still pissed about it, yes.

I figured that, if I have to start anew, and will be severely limited anyway, well... then why not just start a whole new account? This way I'm not tempted by the capital ships, the tech 2 and tech 3, and whatever else I gave up when CCP took too much from me back then.

Anyway, I did find that he is listed as being docked up in a station - in fact, all characters on that account are docked up... some in stations I would never have docked in, so I believe the game put them there.
