When I first joined the game three years ago there was some activity in LGBT events and communities.

These days not so much. There are LGBT, GAY, and a GLBT channels, but the are organized by defunct corporations and I can't get in contact with them.

Would those of us playing that are queer enjoy a place to hangout in game and chat? Would you like to have in game events?

AttentionAttentionAttentionAttentionAttention I am NOT talking about a corporation! AttentionAttentionAttentionAttentionAttention

Let's discuss what we as a community want to do.

Just out of curiosity, what does the Q and + stand for? Only used to people using the LGBT abbreviation.

Edit: Nvm, should just google first :D

Q = Queer
+ = All the other orientations that would reword it to QUILTBAG.

I'm an originalist... GLBT or nothing.

What I have trouble with is the word 'gender.' I am not a 'gender' and don't know how I couldn't possibly be one. The proper term is 'sex.' 'Gender' applies to a word.

I don't know how, why, or when this changed. All I know is, whenever I see a form nowadays to fill out my 'gender,' I just leave it blank.

I used to think this. Sex is now purely biological, while gender is how you identify sexually (and also la table, das auto etc. grammatically). Passports and other forms asking for physical identity should probably just ask 'sex'.

Why does your name have an S at the end is of greater concern.

I was under the impression Q means Questioning, considering queer is just another word for gay, no?

Lesbian and Gay technically are the same thing as well so it seems redundant. Also I don't see why they keep adding letters. You are either gay, bisexual, or straight. Some trans people are gay, some are bi, some are straight. Technically if you have the brain of a girl and you're attracted to boys, I guess you'd be straight then.

The Great Karnak predicts this thread will get locked.

(Pro tip: this question as seen in the OP gets asked apparently every 7 - 8 months. The general answer is: we are Eve players first, last, and foremost. Everything else gets left at the door.)

Read "The Forever War". Society changes. Who knows, maybe we will live in completely other world in few decades. We would not have to describe our differences then and tell everyone he is different. Everyone will assume the other person is different on some level and no one will be bothered by it. The society will change together with culture and human communication norms.

Amen to that.

Connectors etc. have a gender. Living organisms have a sex.

As to why it changed, sex is a naughty word and so those of a delicate disposition preferred "gender".

To be fair, the guy's looking for a community to hang out with, specifically, one he feels like he'd be the most comfortable in. I don't see this as having anything to do with identity politics, it's just like anyone else looking for a community they relate to. To be fair though, OP, there are a lot of communities in this game that you would probably feel comfortable in. Don't restrict yourself to one little chamber. I love diversity, but more than diversity of sexuality/gender/race/etc, I like diversity of ideas. It comes down to this thought experiment - would you rather be in a room with a bunch of different people who all think the same, or a bunch of people who are all the same but think different? It's a false dichotomy, but, think about it.

Quote:
2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive, and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

6. Racism and discrimination are prohibited.

Racism, gender stereotyping, hate speech, and sexism are not permitted on the EVE Online Forums. Derogatory posting that includes race, religion or sexual preference based personal attacks and trolling can result in immediate suspension of forum posting privileges.

7. Discussion of real life religion and politics is prohibited.

Discussion of real life religion and politics is strictly prohibited on the EVE Online forums. Discussions of this nature often creates animosity between forum users due to real life political or military conflicts. CCP promotes the growth of a gaming community where equality is at the forefront. Nationalist, religious or political affiliations are not part of EVE Online, and should not be part of discussion on the EVE Online forums.

27. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued to the off-topic poster.

I have gone through this thread and cleaned it up. Everyone in Eve deserves to find a community where they feel welcome! If you're not interested in helping the OP find or create such a community, please steer clear of this thread. Thanks!

I would hazard a guess that several of the larger organizations have sub groups that address this. Goons seem very active in proclaiming themselves and others as Gay.

What I DO know is that CCP takes a dim view of any persecution based upon race, creed, or sexual preference. If that happens? Report it. please.

Confirming that goons do indeed have SIGs for LGBTWTFBBQ (and frequently proclaim that they are indeed gay, whether they actually are or not). Can't comment on how active they are, though. I feel that an ingame community about real world interests that have nothing to do with the (meta)game may not have much staying power.
