Hey folks.
Hoping to get some help on monitor recommendations.
my 24" is slowly dying and it is time to replace it.

I have done a lot of research on monitors as well as monitors for playing Eve online.

At this point, trying to decide between (2) 27" dual monitors, or go with a 34" monitor.

One thing I keep reading about is to NOT go with 4K monitors because the text would be so tiny in Eve (because it already is tiny and 4K would make it worse. I have read where if you do go 4K, get a 40" plus monitor/TV.)

With that, I want to make sure i am smart about the monitor because I dont want to strain the crud out of my eyeballs.

I narrowed it down to either two of these:

http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/MX27AQ/overview/

Or one of these (34" LG):

http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34UM95-P-ultrawide-monitor

Both IPS and 1440P.

I know it will come down to personal preference between one big monitor or two monitors.
However, one thing I was hoping to ask the folks here is, what would the text look like in Eve? That is probably my biggest concern because i have heard others say picking the wrong monitor and trying to read the text in Eve will be very difficult.

I know a lot of folks in the form have a lot of experience (more than me) so hoping to get that experience help here.

I appreciate the help.

Don't know much about monitors but have you considered your digital TV?
I run EvE at full resolution on the family 50" Panasonic TV and it looks awesome and the text is nicely rendered. I had to increase the font size by 1 in settings but yeah, very nice.

Any monitor is fine, really. You can always just resize the UI and text if you need to.

If you have space for two monitors, go ahead. One can be for information and the other is the play screen. If you can't afford two monitors, there is this Overwolf overlay you can use without having to tab out. That or just tab out regardless.

I would recommend getting a monitor with a 1ms response time. It will suit the fast movement of games far more. I am by no means an expert, but I think you may see some blurriness with a 5ms response time (which is the case with both monitors you have chosen).

This is what I use and they have been top notch: http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/XL2430T/specifications/

Here is the larger equivalent of what I use (27" and 1440p: http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/xl2730z/specifications/

Hope this helps in some way.

Cheers

One thing i'm still struggling with multi monitors is the pointer travel time and window management like, the market window is on another monitor and I face it and press keyboard commands only to find them not working. Then I realize it is on another client.. and the client I was sending the commands to was somewhere else in the jumble.

I have one dedicated 15", USB powered AOC display that I set in portrait mode for all the text thingies or the overview. Kinda like that flexibility when I need it portrait or landscape with smallish displays like that.

I got this one as my main monitor. Works fine, nice colors and enough space to play two clients without any problems, can fit up to four without any overlapping windows.

You should take a look here to compare the sizes of your two option and maybe to your current monitor. It may be different than you expect.

And also keep in mind that this resolution already equals ~2.4 Full-HD displays and therefore has higher demands on your video card.

But: If I wanted to buy a new monitor now, I would definitely go 4k resolution and bigger size.

I highly recommend 2 monitors.

You can span Eve across both, or have it running in one, and use the other for something else (which might be another eve client, or your web browser, where you can do something like run netflix ;) )

One big monitor is nice enough, but it doesn't give you more _space_ to do things (unless it's 4k) it just makes things larger.

.. or it's 21:9 and has 3440:1440 resolution like the one from LG.

Yep 21:9 is the way to go.

Two smaller monitors best for multiboxing. You'll have trouble with window positioning on one big monitor.

If you have the pixel pushing power, either one is fine moving from a 24".

Here's the thing about 34/35"ultrawide currently. If you are moving to one from a 27" or larger monitor you'll be disappointed because the screen height is only just over 13 inches. A 27" has a vertical screen height of nearly 15". It doesn't sound like much, but it's really noticeable and was a deal killer for me when shopping ultrawides.

Having said that, my eye now falls on this . 38 inches of curved, IPS, 75 Hz, eye popping 21:9 glory. Sadly, it's only available with Freesync and not Gsync right now. So I'll be waiting a while yet to purchase one.

Dual monitors over one larger one. Id even consider a triple monitor setup if your computer can run it frankly. Its so much more fun with more monitors. Yes mouse travel time can be pesky but you can up your mouse cursor rate to compensate for that a touch, too fast and it really gets jumpy, and it takes a while to get used to the new speeds but in the end youll be slightly faster moving around the screen space.

I would often mine or do whatever and have an extra monitor allowing me to watch a movie or surf the forums here all while never having to alt tab out or not see the screens, dotlan open on roams, etc. I came from Falcon 4.0 to Eve so the idea of MFDs and other leg notebooks and such wasnt an odd or foreign idea even back then.

I am a BenQ fan. 4 of their 24" monitors have proven quite useful to me.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

acer XB321HK as the main, some lowly Samsung 24" 1080p as a secondary here.

Generally, I'm in the same boat as everone else who recommended getting 2 monitors. As Steve said, the secondary can be used for... anything, really. The nice thing about having a 4K display is that you can still easily run four clients without any overlap, if that's your mo.

I run 1 x Asus PB287Q (4K) as my middle monitor & 2 x Asus MG248 monitors on each side.

You can adjust the resolution to suit. I generally run the 28 at 150% when doing solo stuff (the extra real estate is great & the clarity is amazing), but I can also have 4 windows (although small) on it when running multiple clients.

Sure beats the old method of ALT-Tabbing between windows.

The problem with several monitors is that
they have to be the exact same otherwise you will
get color and brightness differences.

If you always stay ready you don't have to get ready.
