I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information about standings and the Sisters Arc. I'm an Amarr with a home station in Gallente space and I'm trying to keep my standings in the positive for both Amarr and Gallente as well as the other two empires. That said, what are the negative standings I get for completing the sisters Arc? I understand that it will give me a standing bonus when done, but for whom, and I don't quite understand which factions I get the standings hit in. Any help?

There is no standings hit.

The SoE arc is a long chain of missions that ends with you choosing which empire you wish to help of the four main empires. Whichever choice you take you get a separate mission where you kill a rat (Dagan) and get a boost for that empire faction with no associated loss to other factions.

in general storyline missions give a boost to standings to whomever you run it for, they also give derived standings to all the npc corps that have standings to that primary corp. These derived standings are capped at whatever the standings are between the two factions. For example I can run caldari missions forever and as long as I don't shoot other empire faction npcs will get to +5 amarr, -2 minmatar, and -5 gallente. The derived standings will never go above/below those levels.

the epic arcs are special and don't give derived gain/loss, because of this it is possible to get to high standings with all of the primary empire factions. There are a few other epic arcs, like the level 3 pirate arcs that are designed to be done in a fast frigate, and the empire level 4 epic arcs.

and if you ever want to know everything there is to know about maxing out or fixing standings check out this thread by DeMichael Crimson: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=10212

The "Show Info" button (looks like an i ) will open info windows on NPC agents, corps, empires, etc. Little known fact is that the icons at the top of the Show Info window are clickable and you can then see the info for what you clicked.

You can, thus, start in a station and follow the icons to see the NPC corp that owns the station, and its parent empire.

And then the relationships between the empires are listed in the Standings tab.

As an example:

Standings can go between -10.0 and +10.0.

Minmatar Republic vs. Caldari State = -2.0 (they mildly hate each other at -20%)
Minmatar Republic vs. Amarr Empire = -5.0 (they strongly hate each other at -50%).
Minmatar Republic vs. Gallente Federation = +8.0 (they love each other at +80%).

Minmatar likes Concord at +3, but Concord is neutral at 0 towards Minmatar.
etc., all are listed.

So, that means, if you do a "storyline" mission where your Minmatar standings are rewarded, and you gain 0.1 points with Minmatar Republic, you will also gain:

-0.02 Caldari
-0.05 Amarr
+0.08 Gallente
0 Concord
etc.

As indicated above, the SoE epic arc will give you a choice for which empire you want to "help", and you'll gain SoE standings and standings with that empire. The SoE epic arc is repeatable every 3 months, so you can in theory do it 4x / year and pick an empire each time.

Otherwise for regular missions you gain standings with the agent and his/her corp. NPC corps don't care about each other, you can get +10 with Caldari Navy and +10 with Gallente Navy no problem. You can refuse the "important" mission offers you get every 16 regular missions so you don't affect your empire standings while you do this. And you can also refuse missions that send you to kill elements of other empire's navies; you can refuse 1 mission every 4 hours per each agent with no repercussions.

Just want to clarify that while doing the SoE Level 1 Epic Arc, you'll gain positive standings with various Agents and Corporations from different Factions within the arc. As was already stated, there is no negative standing hits and the only Faction standing increase you gain is for completing the arc with whichever one of the four main Empires you select.

As for the Level 3 Pirate Epic Arcs and the Level 4 Empire Epic Arcs, they all have a few missions that will incur negative Faction standing hits for either ship or structure kill. That amount is rather small, especially when compared to the amount of positive standing gained for completing those arcs.

Last but not least, each level of Social skill trained will increase the amount of Agent, Corporation and Faction standing gained for completing missions.

One more point ... While this won't be an issue the first time you do the Arc, you will get storyline missions for the Empire factions on subsequent runs. These will have the normal derived standings. Only the Dal Segno Al Fine mission grants a substantial standing boost(~8% depending on your social skills) with the faction of your choice and no derived loss. Don't forget to hand the mission in!

@DeMichael Crimson, @Do Little

Thanks for the clarification and additional information. I can definitely see the benefit of completing the Arc. I've also been working on social skills to help mitigate my standings.
