MJD vs Grappler

I'm working on a turret-based PvP fit battleship, and I think I have everything nailed down except for one choice: Do I fit a Micro Jump Drive or a Heavy Stasis Grappler in my last midslot?

The base fit is tight enough that I have to give up some tank (Drop an EANM II down to a faction ANP) and drop down to a meta 4 cap booster in order to fit the MJD, but the difference in there is pretty negligible.

So, all other things being (roughly) equal, which of these two have folks found more useful? An MJD is great for quick escapes if you're not scrammed, but the grappler would make it easier to kill small frigates up close.

I do have two flights of unbonused light drones, and an afterburner as an additional prop mod.

Thanks.

AC Tempest. Current mids are AB, scram, web, booster. Highs are guns/neuts, lows are tank/damage mods.

It's purpose is to be dropped right on a hostile battleship using a cloaked scout, gank it, and GTFO. I am expecting some defenders in cruisers/frigates to show up pretty quickly. I'd like the MJD because there's a chance I could just jump out if they don't scram me, but if they do scram me the MJD is useless and the grappler would help.

I guess what my question boils down to is: how useful is the MJD as a GTFO module if you're fighting up close?

Thanks.

yes , yes it is, unless you get scrammed or theyre clever enough to have a hic.
in which case your seeing the fight through regardless.

Edit: tbh though something like a proteus might be better for this though, a tempist (or most battleships for that matter) will struggle to get ontop of anything quickly

It seems like the grappler would be a better choice for you for a few reasons.

1. Your fit seems to indicate that you expect to be fighting in scram range. MJDs are useless if scrammed, and relying on the failure of your opponent to pack a scram is rarely a wise move.

2. If you're relying on a cloaky warp-in to land on your target, chances are that you'll start the fight at very close range. This is precisely where the grappler is strongest. Unlike the MJD, which only "may" be useful if your opponent screws up, the grappler will 100% help you. Plus, if support does show up, it will help you kill them too.

3. You indicated that your tank is stronger with the grappler than the MJD. Sacrificing tank for a module that you almost certainly won't use seems unwise.

MJDs are incredibly useful in the right situation, it just seems that yours isn't one of them. If you were going with a kiting or sniper fit, I'd say go with the MJD. For your purposes, I'd go with the grappler.

Good hunting.

You should use a grappler, they dont stacking penalize with webs so you can track ab frigs. Also, you really shouldnt be using an AB on a battleship, the only BS where those are good are on nigjhtmares.

If you wanna go propless (which an ab basicely is) you could also drop the AB for the MJD.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll go with the grappler.

I didn't realize that grapplers and webs didn't stack. That's good to know. Thanks for sharing!

Afterburners on battleships are bad for getting into scram range, but once you are in scram range they are useful. Since I'm planning on doing a warp-to-zero on my target, it should be useful.

The Nightmare would be the right ship for you then but you can make an afterburner work on a Barghest or and even if it pains me to say this, the machariel.
