No, I didn't. Any of the software I designed when windows breaks, reinstall it, and if you kept app, just run it and it works.

May I ask what magical place you install stuff where things don't go missing when you wipe your c: drive?

If there's a place you can reliably put stuff that isn't C:/ I would really like to know about it.

I honestly feel like I just read fifty shades of dumb. --CCP Falcon

Um... yeah, it is.

To find your My Documents folder, the full path is c:\users\[username]\documents.

Just make sure you don't have a C: drive. Visit the Linux forums to find out how.

I thought that the syntax was C:\

Not sure though, I haven't used Windows in years.

OP must be using too much Unix.

Ah Linux, the only proven cure for Windows.

To find your My Documents folder, the full path is c:\users\[username]\documents.

Right click the My Documents folder -> Properties -> Location -> move it to wherever you want. It's magic!

The link will stay in C:\Users\... but the files will actually be stored wherever you want them to. Same goes for about everything else in your user folder, including AppData. It's just the default location Windows assigns to them, but that doesn't mean they need to stay there.

If not in the system users home folder, where else would the Eve client store personal data such as logins and user profiles? If it just stored them in the app folder itself, it would mean that every user on the system could access them. It's just an internet spaceship game, and most gamers don't share their system, so it's not all that important, but it's still good practice to store things that only one user is supposed to have access to inside that one users home folder. The same happens on unixoids too, so it's not a Windows specific practice either.

If as a developer you don't do that because it's more convenient for your users or yourself, that's all fine and dandy, however you are ignoring the fact that the Windows home desktop line has been a proper multi user OS ever since XP, and you are introducing an unnecessary privacy/security risk.

Now, what the client puts there aren't technically documents, so they wouldn't go to "My Documents". They are settings for a game so they could arguably go into "My Games", but really, that's a folder that's awfully specific. In the end, the Eve client is an application, and I don't see a reason for it to not store its user specific application data in the users "AppData" folder.

It's not CCPs fault that OP apparently was smart enough to move "My Documents", but overlooked "AppData". He probably lost all kinds of application specific settings that way as well besides Eves, because Eve is nowhere near the only application that stores its settings there.
