Why is the Spaceship Command skillbook on the market?

I just realized this. You can't fly a ship without Spaceship Command. Doesn't every player start with it?

Why do they exist?

Maybe it is a remnant of EVE's glory days when clones would lose SP when they got podded.

This is clearly the only reason.

However it might also be fair to say that Spaceship Command is sold as a coffee table book for new pilots to review the evolution of spaceship frames over time.

...and does the skillbook have a centerfold of Chribba laid out over the hood of his Veldnaught, with his Everything is Awesome Shirt?

This might be a good second reason if this is true

Thanks.

Because otherwise CCP would have to code a special case for books included with a base clone, and update that whenever they change the base skills.

It is much simpler, and less error prone, to just treat all skills the same.

The issue with that is old returning players not being able to skill into new stuff because there are no more old books around too.































Im not saying its "Legacy Code"..... but its legacy code.... or in this case just well... err... ummm... Okay okay I just always wanted to use that line.Lol

there may be a few legacy characters that started without it.

my main started eve with just 6,200 SP in 2004 ... i didnt even have the 'gunnery' skill .. i had nothing. I dont think i even had engineering or any other of those skills. I had spaceship command, frigs 1, mining, and .. not much else. took forever to dig myself out of that hole.

i imagine that there may be a senario in the old character creation that left you without the skill.
