I'm concerned about the risk of RMT, bots, etc. with the new alphas

As the topic suggests, I have noticed that many, many of the new capsuleers coming into the game with a laissez-faire atitude to potential rule breaking, much of the time without the knowledge of how CCP deals with such things. I am part of a corp that assists Alpha clones in transitioning into the game, and it's seeming to be a worrying possibility. Many of them seem to be open to the idea of buying isk from an outside source, with no thoughts whatsoever into potential repercussions of taking this action. Whilst I do try to educate them on the potential repercussions that their rule breaking may have, I cannot catch every one on my own, and cannot be online all the time to ensure that they don't think that this sort of behaviour will not go unpunished.

To be perfectly honest, it worries me. The more people who promote this activity, the more we may see a rise in the botting, the macro mining, and further RMT trading, by unscrupulous individuals who care nothing for the game, and what sort of effects their actions may have on the wider player base of Eve.

Which brings me to my other point. Is this new system of alpha clones going to encourage people who already sell ISK through RMT means to create dummy accounts with no other purpose than mass mining with a macro of some sort, in many different instances on their PC? I feel it is almost a guarantee of it happening, being as it may, that any system that provides a boon to a person is eventually going to be abused by the more unscrupulous among the new playerbase.

These things concern me deeply, and I worry for the state of the game. I have played Eve on and off for a number of years now, and it is quite close to my heart. I would hate to see anything happen to it, especially when it comes at the expense of CCP, who have be incredibly kind to open up their game to players to play for free, albeit in a somewhat restricted fashion.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Could this encourage some players to break the rules? And what could we do to potentially prevent these forms of abuses from happening going on into the future?

Thank you for your thoughts and your time, and fly safe.

There will not be a mass of them, as CCP has evolved quite good tools for finding them. This includes people trying to run multiple alphas from one location. So, they may try in mass, but we will not see it happening in mass, as they will quickly get banned.

That said, it would be better if it did not happen at all. I think CCP needs to publicize these basic rule on the log in page. Sort of a sticky news item:

We will ban you if you Bot.
We will ban you if you try and run multiple Alpha accounts.
We will ban you if you buy ISK from a third party. If you want to buy ISK, here is how you do it with a PLEX.

These rules need to be placed in front of the players in an Overt, Continuous, and Persistent manner.

Yes CCP hasn't it all figured out yet, they need an Einstein brain such as yours to tell them how to deal with rmt.

Thanks for posting this illegal thread with such an important message.

CCP is pretty good about monitoring for this kind of thing. I'm sure they use "Big Data" to throw some triggers on when this crap happens. It's also really easy to report ISK for money spam - it used to be a HUGE problem several years ago.

Can't do it. Alphas are node locked to a single instance of the game if they are running Alpha, and if they are running Omega already they cannot run any Alpha clients.

I'm not so worried. I do think the EULA regarding ISK purchase should probably be written in neon lighting before you step into the EVE pub, but I don't think it's cause for as much concern as you might think. PLEX contributed heavily to the death of (non-sanctioned) buying ISK, and I think the selling side of the equation will be easy enough to pick up using in-house metrics.

Game's been around for 10+ years, and we've had periodic news announcements about mass-banning of bots and RMT. CCP don't give details, but the playerbase confidence is pretty high that they have effective systems in place for catching botters and RMT'ers.

Still, it would probably be a good thing if CCP made some sort of video to explain the relevant portions of the game EULA and forum terms of service (TOS), to point out what's illegal and what's not, to all these newbies.

I like the in-game video tutorials you can see by pressing F12, maybe they can add to that.

Because from what you're describing, it will just be a huge shock to a whole bunch of Alphas when they get permanently banned because of RMT or account sharing.

Considering influx of players, CCP should dedicate another significant effort on reporting/prosecuting RMT sellers on various websites.

There are a lot of them.

Well this is kind of ironic... But I'm going to lock this thread.
