I haven't played Eve since long ago and i remember watching on the Eve Fanfest how Devs were talking that was going to take a LONG time to build one citadel.

My question is, all these citadels and tons of player made stations on high sec, are really the same citadels Devs were saying it was going to take players 1 year minimum to build them?

Most of those are Astrahus - basically just space shacks and a few Fortizar citadels. They probably talked about the Keepstar when they said it would take a bit to build it. After all, they intended to replace POSes with those new Citadel structures, and that would not be practical if it took a year and a whole corporations worth of effort to manufacture even the smallest one.

Never underestimate the organizational capacity of the inhabitants of New Eden. Give them a challenge and they will accept it and beat it.

The only thing I recall that was supposed to take a long time to achieve was the Palpatine keepstar. Rediculously expensive and only ever supposed to be one in existance as well as leaving a permanent wreck if destroyed if I remember correctly. Supposed to cost more than the current combined economy of new eden.

That's an interesting question, regarding how many there are. Must be a hundreds if not thousands, you see them all around in high, low, and null. Seems like a very successful game design choice by CCP.

First one to be built should be named the Deathstar. Then when it gets destroyed it will be all the more fitting.

Final blow should of course be someone named Luke Skywalker. Phased Plasma would probably be the best ammo.

For those not already giggling, the proper name is Palatine Keepstar.

The most heavily armored and sought after Citadel of them all, the Palatine Keepstar is the jewel in the crown of any major power in New Eden. The main draw to this structure is that it is unique, with its own SKIN, and only one may exist in the universe at any given time. On destruction, a permanent monument bearing the name of the corporation that had created the Upwell Palatine Citadel will be placed in its previous location.

This will only be true for the first one of these structures ever created.

Wikipedia wrote:
A palatine or palatinus (in Latin; plural palatini; cf. derivative spellings below) is a high-level official attached to imperial or royal courts in Europe since Roman times.[1] The term palatinus was first used in Ancient Rome for chamberlains of the Emperor due to their association with the Palatine Hill.[2] The imperial palace guard, after the rise of Constantine I, were also called the Scholae Palatinae for the same reason. In the Early Middle Ages the title became attached to courts beyond the imperial one; the highest level of officials in the Roman Catholic Church were called the judices palatini. Later the Merovingian and Carolingian dynasties had counts palatine, as did the Holy Roman Empire. Related titles were used in Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, the German Empire, and the Duchy of Burgundy, while England, Ireland, and parts of British North America referred to rulers of counties palatine as palatines.[1]

I think you may have jumbled a few things OP, CCP said that it would take a year or two for them to fully replace POS's and outposts with citadel's.

Butyeah, that Palatine will take forever to make P

200 Trillion ISK cost to build it. Yeah, we'll build it in the next 50 years.

That's almost 20% of all ISK in the game, and about 5% of the entire wealth of EVE (assets + ISK) today. Maybe in the future these numbers will shrink and a new superpower will want to show off, but for now it seems an impossible task.

Would be nice if that citadel would give some rewards or benefits to more than the owing alliance, something unique, to make many alliance want to co-operate to build it

Chribba will build it.
