Lost internet, came back online in my capsule...

So I'm running Rifter missions (hisec Minmatar space to get back into the swing of thinglast night and my internet goes out. No biggie, I decide to log out for the night. Log in today to find my capsule in free space, Rifter gone, no explanation as to what happened. If someone blew my frigate (is that even possible if I'm offline?) why didn't they pod me as well? I checked my kill list but don't see any pertinent info, though I did get an insurance payout and a Slasher out of the deal, which I guess counts for something. Does this sort of thing happen, or did I experience a peculiar glitch due to the internet disconnect?

What?

Do you have a notication of a killmail?

It should show you how you died, mostly likely to rats.

Certain actions in the game cause timers to appear in the top left of your client. When you engage, in PVE or PVP, you'll get such timers that will result in your ship staying in space should you leave the game. A timer would have been active when you disconnected, resulting in your ship staying in space, and probably being destroyed by the NPCs. I lost a Mauler a long time ago to this. It happens.

I lost a freakin' Kronos that way. That's when I was bored with the game anyway and decided "nah, I'm not gonna try to buy a new one" and just unsubbed.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

That kinda makes sense actually... I'd just finished a mission so my timer was probably engaged and my connection dropped when I was en route to the station to turn it in. Thanks for the insight, knowledge is power!

I lost a 2.5 billion Barghest playing docking games when my PC froze just as it was going into low armour. Once I was rebooted and logged in again, I then proceeded to continue my docking games in a 2+ billion Vindi. I don't care what kind of ship it is, if you let this sort of thing cause you to unsub, or rage, you are probably not fit for this game anyway. The moment you undock, you should be telling yourself that the ship you're in is forfeit.

You can file a support ticket under Gameplay support ->Reimbursement -> Lost Ship and a GM will review the logs and determine if you ship lost was caused by a bug or glitch. If so they may reimburse your ship, if not they may be able to tell you what happened. Reimbursement Tickets may take a while as there are several different steps taken to figure out what happened.

This post is not a guarantee of ship replacement.

Check your combat logs.

Character sheet>Interactions>Combat Log

You will see your loss, even to NPCs or environmental damage.

If you don't see it then file a support ticket.

Checked my combat logs, nothing there at all. Opened a ticket per your suggestion, thanks!

Not rage or anything. Just bored. I had already done everything I wanted to in EVE, had other stuff going on IRL that was way more interesting, and trying to replace a Kronos sounded like the opposite of fun. The fun vs suck ratio had run out of fun.

I feel you, the same thing happened to me AGAIN just like earlier. This is a terrible game mechanic (losing your ship due to dropped connection) as it completely inconveniences the player for something outside of their control. I was able to log back in within a few minutes, but my frigate was gone and now I have to go through the hassle of procuring a new ship and fittings, which wouldn't be a big deal if I lost them fair and square.

Hmm, usually if you get disconnected your ship emergency warps to a safe position 1 million kilometer away where you are essentially safe in highsec. This does not happen if your ship is warp disrupted or destroyed within the time it needs to align and enter warp after you disconnect (plus a grace period to let the server figure out your are actually disconnected). Also if your ship was on low health, leaving your ship can cause it's immediate explosion because only your char's skills were keeping it alive.

Wait for the ticket, GMs will explain to you what happened.

I'm my own NPC alt.

It's terrible, but necessary. Was that mechanic not there, people could just unplug their network cable once things start going south and never lose a ship that way.

I seem to remember that being the case, which is why I was all WTF when I reconnected and saw my capsule meandering through space. I'd been Riftering about and had just engaged some NPC rats and hadn't taken any damage, but I still gotta pay the price (and suffer the hassle of acquiring the same fits for a replacement from stations several jumps away). I really don't mean to carp on about this, I was just wondering if this was a new thing for EVE or if it's just a weird glitch. Did open a support ticket for both occurrences, curious to see what sort of resolution is forthcoming. In the meantime, back to it...
