Hi! I'm Marcus Prime, a space ship engineer. I was one of the very first humans from the old world who went on an expedition to enter the EVE gate. However, due to some technical issues, or some stupid droid, my reanimation process was not initiated.

After hundreds of years of slumber in my cryo-stasis chamber, i was finally awoken by a spark... yeah, an over voltage spark that almost turned me into an overcooked kebab!

moving on... this NEW world is unfamiliar with me. I know those flying ships, space ships what we call them in the old world etc but i basically have 0.00001% knowledge about this world and i, honestly, desperately need you help.

If you know the answer to my questions below, please do help this noob, poor and literally clueless space debris.

1: I downloaded the client and its only 300mb~? is that normal? does the game download the game files while playing? like in a mobile game?

2: If your answer on #1 is yes, where can i download the full client data? i dont want to experience slow loading etc due to the fact that there is something called "Fair Usage Policy" with my current ISP. I wanna download everything and play smoothly.

3: Anyone knows a guide on how to transfer EVE files from one computer to another? so that i dont have to redownload?

4: Are there "SAFEZONES" in this game? I dont really wanna poke on someone and just wanna earn until i get to know more about the game. I read somewhere that the safe zone is only when your ship is docked?

5: I'm totally clueless and just by looking at how much i need to know makes me wanna puke my brains out... but is there a guide for newbies especially those guides applicable to the new F2P or ascension? Im starting as a ALPHA Clone state player.

Thank you for bearing with my role playing trip, but it does apply in my current situation, its like im a new born then put back on the womb only to be born as a clueless adult!

and i plan on creating a EVE newbie guide for players who are NEW and just joined the game.

Thanks!

1 &2 . Goto settings in the launcher and click the button "Download Everything"

3. Honestly never bothered

4: Nope, except the starter systems themselves, not sure if this is true with the alphas. I presume so.

5. Here is one there are many more, just google eve guides.

The CSM gets in the way of CCP communicating properly with the players of this game.

After all we are not just players, we are customers.

Time for the CSM to be disbanded.

Nowhere is safe in EVE, highsec space is safer than everywhere else due to Concord retaliation but expect to die if you do something daft like stuff a billion isk worth of cargo in an untanked hauler.

Google EVE uni. Lots of info for you to chew on there.

1) the Client will download more as you need it. But EvE is not huge when you compare it with other games (WoW for example)

2) https://community.eveonline.com/support/download/

3) not my cup of tea, sorry.

4) This strongly depends on what you call a "safezone." There are 12 systems that are considered new player systems. In these systems, scamming and suicide ganking are not permitted. Outside of those, there are 3 types of space in terms of aggression.
High Security space ( space that is .5 -1.0 security status) has a police force. The police are entirely reactionary. They won't stop someone from attacking you, but they will destroy that person's ship for you. The trick is that some rather cheap ships can be fit to do a lot of dps and kill you quickly.
Low Security space (security between .1 and .4) has gate guns and a security status loss. These are more of a tactical decision of who is going to start a fight, but a rather small deterrant.
Null security and Wormhole space: any penalty from attacking a player is enforced by other players. expect to be attacked if you're seen.
So no, there aren't safe zones like WoW or other games have.

5)The best teachers of this game are other players. Look for an active Corporation (guilds or clans in other games) that is new player and Alpha friendly. I am unaware of any specific guides for new players. Guides will tend to be more vectored towards a certain activity IE. running missions, pvp, industry, mining, scamming.

1.
Yes it's normal. Eve uses a download on demand approach to obtain the content, so only minimal assets are downloaded initially.

What that also means is that the first couple of times you play the game, you may notice a fair bit of lag as assets are downloaded, but after that the client responds quickly.

2.
Yes you can download the full set of assets.

In the launcher, click the E symbol at top right and select the settings:

https://puu.sh/sjV6s/3590e7e3da.png

You can click to download everything

3.
See Violet's post below ( https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6711550#post6711550 )

4.
This is Eve. There is no safe area. Space is as safe as you are prepared to make it.

5.
There are some great YouTube videos and instructions from Eve-University. On YouTube, search for Pandemic Horde. They have a series of videos,

Also in game, press F12 to bring up the help menu. There are videos you can watch in game (they aren't necessarily the most helpful. The player made ones are better).

Oh and scamming is allowed in EvE so be careful and never pay to join someones corp or give them access to your stuff.

Also if something is to good to believe its a scam.

3) Launcher -> Settings -> Shared Cache Settings will let you find the folder where the shared cahe is located and also let you set the folder to be used for your second installation. It's not the whole client, but should cover the bulk of downloaded data.

1 its been pretty much answered however you could have downloaded the offline installer.

2 understandable but revert to option 1

3 not advisable

4 There are safe zones in EvE called new starter systems. Nobody is allowed to gank or blow up your ship as bannable offence to the person who attacks you. The system you entered when starting game is one.

5 look end of the day you have entered a game created by players. Its tough and you will learn. It wil make you happy, sad, fing furious and youll quit so many times and come back.

CHILL TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND ENJOY THE RIDE.

There are safe areas in the game. You won't get attacked whilst in a station.

However all the fun stuff is out there, in space.

Be bold pilot.

About the safe zones...

No, there are technically no safe zones which means that in theory your ship can get blown up anywhere (unless docked in station).

As in real life technically any person at any place can pull a knife and stab you.
Any building you are in can collapse... and so on.
Only _normally_ you manage to stay alive somehow because these things don't happen.
There are more and less dangerous areas though and you can influence a lot with your behaviour.

Same in EVE.
Stay in Highsec (security status 1.0-0.5 systems) and you will probably never get attacked.
That is unless you happen to carry something extremely valuable unprotected or you happen to encounter a freak who just kills people because HE CAN.
(there are slightly more suicidical freaks in EVE than in real life though :-D)

Greetings squishy one :)

Eve is big scary and hard like a 14" strap on, don't be put off if it all seems a bit much at first (try just the tip or something).

If you promise to stash the strange role play bit I'll be happy to help out with any questions you may have, either by evemail or direct chat if I'm online.

Guides from EVE University, a player alliance that is organized as a school:

Guide for getting started.
Solar System security ratings.
Aggression and high-sec PVP flags and rules

Explanation of ships, list of ships, and how to fit them with weapons/defenses.
Guide for skills and what to train

Alphas / Getting Started Q&A thread on Reddit

In very broad terms, you train skills to unlock ships, weapons for the ships, and bonuses for flying. There are many skills, and they can loosely be grouped into:

Ship Command skills - unlock ships
Weapon skills (drones, missiles, gunnery) - unlock weapons and make them shoot better
Support skills (armor, shields, engineering, navigation, targeting, etc.) - make all your ships fly better
Misc. skills (industry, reprocessing, trade, corp. management, etc.) - train as desired

The ships have different size classifications and different roles. Ships function as tools to accomplish a task; you're supposed to use whichever ship is best suited, and when the task changes, you're supposed to change the ship to a different more suited one. The more ships you unlock, the more tools you have in your toolbelt (character). Building a character is like building an entire account in other MMO's, because you can get all the roles (dps, tanking, repairs, jamming, resource gathering, manufacturing, etc.).

The game is like a real-time-strategy RTS, and not like a dogfighting simulation. Ships are designed in a rock-paper-scissors, with certain ships trumping other ships and having nemeses of their own. Combat is: you fit your ship properly, and then you look for fights that match the strengths of your ship, and avoid fights that match the weaknesses (note that it's not always possible to avoid, but bringing friends who fly different ships can cover up your weaknesses, as a group).

EDIT: Oh, and Official EVE Online Lore, should keep you busy reading for at least a month.
