In case anyone missed it, why you are having to provide the verification code even if you didn't expressly set 2FA on your account yourself.

great player support CCP ! the FREE to Play thing is what brought me back to EVE ! even though i paid to have my 2 accounts back this month just knowing that i wont be completely out of the game if i dont have the money or dont earn enough ingame to keep my account active drove me to quit the game ive been playing for the past 4+ years and come back to EVE , sorry wargaming but WOT cant compete with eve now that they are both FTP , not to mention the outstanding player support CCP has ! WG does a decent job but CCP goes above and beyond !

The referenced article^ speaks of needing to verify one's EMAIL ADDRESS -- that is not the same as using 2FA - which isn't mentioned in the linked article at all.
