This is old news of course - was just chatting with a colleague today, told him he should be looking into the Alpha update in a week. He said sure, tried to log in to his old account. Had to do an email verify first, then checked his account, he was 'Amarr Citizen #####'. He and I each checked with another person we had tried EVE with back in 2013 I think, they are also both Caldari Citizen #### and Gallente Citizen ####.

Of course they are only 14 or 21-day trial characters, however I suspect a boatload of people like that will be logging on in late November and indundating EVE support with name change requests/queries.

Has any streamlined method for updating names been looked at?

Good question. I will look back up once more people chime in.

However I think that the name will come back given time, automatically?

Nope. First come first served for new names for toons. Submit a request for a name change will be the only way to do this afaik.

CCP did it to free up names that were no longer in use from trials and such. I also suspect the new wording on the EULA about inactive accounts is alluding to this sort of thing as well.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Create a new character. Starting SP were increased from 50K to 400K after the purge so the new character will probably start with more SP than the old character earned during its trial.

Wait until the release too. They are revamping the New Player Experience, and from what it looks like on SISI, you'll have a blast with it.

If you really liked your old name, you can create an alt to reserve it again (if it's not taken), and then either:

- open a support ticket for a name change on your Citizen xxxx character, or
- wait until next week to start a brand new character with more skillpoints and better newbie rewards from missions

In any case, your name-holding alt can keep the name reserved until you're ready, at which point you delete the alt (takes 10 hours in the death queue), and the name becomes available for your main.
