How do you get started in faction warfare?

I know you enlist in the militia office but I don't see a forum section for this kind of stuff.
I made this account to mess around and try to get a head start on relearning the game since I've kept track over the years
(Played in 2009 for a while and always liked the universe)

Just wondering where I can read up on this stuff?
from what I've managed to find and look up that's recent amarr fw isn't that popular and I want to start a fresh character and try that since I've already had experience in gallente/caldari a long time ago.

(I'd keep this account but I accidentally made my name too long and it's bothering me.
I thought family name would appear in my bio or something as colorful backstory or something. Didn't know it would give me a long clown name on my new character. So my ocd's telling me to delete him.)

I was mostly in industry/mining/hauling when I played so not great at combat. I mostly used my combat ships to fit lots of turrets for jetcan mining and high level missions. So im not very experienced in pvp and not sure how faction warfare works and since alpha clones are locked to racial ships it'd be easier for me to just start fresh in amarr space if I want to do that.
Is there a reason the amarr isn't as active as others or is that something that I read that was inaccurate?

Eve university is always a good place to start: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Factional_Warfare.

There are a number of player corporations who specialize in faction warfare - check the Alliance & Corporation recruitment center section of the forums.

Edit: Minmatar basically won the warzone in June - haven't heard much since. https://www.factionwarfare.com/minmataramarr-micro-update-we-are-home-again/

Yeah I read that previously (you added an extra period at the end linking to a dead page)
I didn't know that fw was under corp stuff though thanks.

It's quite easy,
Click on your neocom; then find "Faction Warfare" under business, I think.
Then choose to join.
I'm uncertain if you have to be in Gallente space to join Gallente and Amarr to join Amarr.
You should be able to do do it remotely.

You have to be in a NPC corp to join unless you join a Corp that do FW :)

It depends on what you mean.

Caldari/Gallente is more active because, for historical reasons, more people rolled Caldari toons than any other race, with Gallente as a close second. The religious empire/slave theme of the Amarr/Minmatar is a turn off for some people, and Amarr ships were historically quite underpowered for solo work.

It also helps that Caldari/Gallente faction warfare is closer to Jita, the games biggest market hub.

If you are looking at Amarr v Minmatar, though, you need to recognize that these things go in cycles. At the beginning of 2016, the Amarr were dominating the Minmatar so thoroughly that by the summer several of their biggest corps got bored and left FW. This created a power vacuum that the Minmatar exploited over the holidays to roll back the whole war zone.

Now, though, the Amarr are pushing back, slowly retaking their systems. It's going to be a tough fight, because geographically active defenders have a huge advantage in Amarr FW space (it's all a series of pipes that are easily camped), but the Amarr militia has good morale, and some very active up-and-coming FC's. In the last 14 days, for example, the Amarr have taken 4 systems, while the Minmatar have only taken 1.

My advice would be to fight for whichever faction appeals to you most.

Some of my recent blog posts (sig) deal with getting into faction warfare, and you may find some of those useful.

If you like reading about low sec piracy or wormhole pvp, you might enjoy my blog.

The Amarr/Minmatar warzone is generally quieter than the Caldari/Gallente warzone for a variety of reasons.

One being that it is further away from Jita and a high percentage of new players start off Caldari, stay in Caldari space and then join the nearest warzone when they consider FW.

Another is that the Amarr/Minmatar warzone is much smaller than the Caldari/Gallente warzone, something like 70 vs 101 systems. Worse the inconnections are more limited in the Amarr/Minmatar warzone with the result that a lot of those systems are just dead for PvP purposes.

A third reason is, like the first, more pirate entities, plus day trippers to low sec, hunt the Caldari/Gallente warzone because of the proximity to Jita. Which all adds to the general PvP activity.

The net result is that the Amarr/Minmatar warzone is dominated by PvE farmers and the warzone is constantly swinging from one side to the other every 8-10 weeks. With just a couple of fortress systems on each side being maintained by the PvPers. Meanwhile the Caldari/Gallente warzone is dominated by PvPers and while systems do get flipped it tends to be specific unoccupied systems somewhat randomly and overall the warzone is a lot more stable.

But that's not to say that farming doesn't happen in the Caldari/Gallente warzone or PvP in the Amarr/Minmatar warzone.

You'll need to do what I did, hook up with some experienced players. (You don't need a corp since the whole militia is like an angry dysfunctional family with some core patriarchs and matriarchs in the mix)

Get om comms with someone let them know you are new and need help. I hear Caldari-Gallente war is much more active so you may wish to start there.

If you like RP Faction Warfare is a great place to start as almost everyone in FW likes a bit of RP whether lite-mixed OOC-IC or parody or serious it has everything, also it is the best kind of pvp lots of 1v1 against very good players you will learn everything.

You could always petition for a name change. The worst that could happen is they say no. Just be prepared to wait a while for a response.

"My Name seemed cool at character creation, but ended up being unwieldly in game. Please just shorten it to XXX XXX.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Well I made my new guy for amarr but I picked a garbage tier background and it spawned me in the ass end of kor azor. Made it to domain and found a punisher for 300k so I'm flying that.

I can't post on corp recruitment until the 15th I guess so I'll just let this guy get some skills done and keep mining on my first guy from the op till I can delete him and redo him too and play on this when the alpha clone stuff starts.
Maybe I'll get lucky and catch brand new players that even I can mess with if they go minmatar.
I just spent an hour in the rookie help channel and no one seems to know any fw channels
