But if getting more people to play is the goal, doesn't single player mode defeat the purpose?
How will I get to enjoy playing with all these new players if they're all playing in solo mode?

Nope.
Even if I play solo with my cloned slaves, what I like is being among other players; seeing them active in flash of red and yellow, going to their duties.
The main fun in this game even in a one-man-corp is that; being a player beside others ones.

And whatever you do even alone have a impact for someone else (like the Gauntlet, Market, Pi/Industry and of course the Pew).

Elite Dangerous is like you want it, and it is boring really.

I don't see the point of playing Eve offline, buy and play Starpoint Gemini 1 & 2 instead, it is basically Eve offline less the unpredictable pvp fun. Bear
