Quick question about scanning symbols

Hi guys,

Just curious, but sometimes when I am scanning, instead of the usual red/yellow/green dot, the cosmic signature will show up as a triangle with a small dot over the top point. What is the significance of this?

Thanks,

Is it the same as the "beacon" icon in the lower right area in this image?

Yes, the same one.

Ok, so a beacon is usually a location that you don't need to probe down; it should appear in the overview (similarly to a station) or be warpable from the d-scan window, so you don't need the probes to find it. It appears in the probe window too, for convenience.

If the beacon doesn't appear in your overview when you enter the solar system, go into Overview Settings and click the checkbox that enables Beacons to be shown.

It's not a beacon though, but a cosmic signature with this symbol. I am not certain, but I don't think that the cosmic signature shows up on my overview the way a beacon does. I will check next time I see the symbol; but I will sometimes get a relic or data site with this symbol, and it definitely isn't on the overview.

I've been wondering about this myself. To provide some additional input: The beacon symbol can appear at all stages of scanning: red, yellow and green. Also I've had cases where I got a two-point result with one being a dot and one being a beacon. In the case I can remember the beacon denoted the wrong point, although I'm fairly sure it can denote the right point as well.

Right, exactly! I have sometimes also gotten a yellow double signature whee both were "beacon" symbols. I thought perhaps it denoted that the signature had previously been scanned to 100, but find this difficult to confirm.

What I interpret it as is that the scan deviation for that point is minimal. Whether or not that point is the correct point is up for contention, but those are just some cents from a semi-newbro explorer.
