Well, nice idea. Because there are scrupulous people out there every charity organization is a fraud? This would really be a victory for the scammer if he not just grbed isk but shut down every real charity organization. No matter if this was a scam but the reaction showed that there are a lot of people out there which really care. Better to loose the money on such a charity scam then on your own greed to a Jita scammer!

No matter if things are true or not: We ALL believed the story because it fits to the behavior of a part of the community! That's the really scary part that we DIDN'T deny it from the start and thought it totally possible that players would do such horrible things.

@ Ralph King-Griffin: Well CCP had enough time to verify it. For the good of the community they should tell us which way the mob with the pitchforks should walk.

I don't disagree with you.

The only change this has made to me is that it's made me even more determined to keep B4R going.

It's is hard not to react like this and even be a bit justified, but mob mentality is the reason why the guys from Manifesto were under such pressure to defend themselves against what seems to be a witch hunt.

The good of the Community is explicitly why they almost certainly will not (and should not) tell us a damn thing.
the pitchfork wielding Mob should be reserved for ingame outrage over who shot/stole/broke/said what of someone else
not for anything even broadly touching mental and/or emotional health,
for a variety of reasons that i frankly shouldn't need to explain to anyone here.

it detracts form an already difficult and highly stigmatized issue
and despite the understandable outrage that such a thing may have been used to leverage the community's good nature
its still wholly, entirly ,trully and wildly inappropriate for us to be told anything about this.<---------serious emphasis on the full stop.

Doubt we will ever know the true motive behind this.

I'm still of the opinion that charity in Eve is a sketchy and grey area unless it's 100% sanctioned by CCP. I fell for it as many others did. When I first read the article I was just sickened and the reaction was remarkable on #tweetfleet.

  • Could someone hate B4R enough to just do it to trash the brand?

  • Could it just be simply a great con-artist who maybe is a former (even current) player that got some people to give him cash?

  • Could Olivia have been a goon alt and this breaking, exclusive story is the perfect launch for their new website?

    • Spin spin spin spin - as you can see, you could go anywhere with this.

    Everyone is out to try and make a RL buck in the name of Eve Online. In a way, I am relieved she just turned out to be a catfish persona and wasn't actually driven to suicide by the few rotten apples in our dear community. (yay we're a slightly different kind of vile instead!) I still don't like b4r or it's current structure of encouraging the down-and-out to post their RL trouble to r/eve and other public places but I get why they are here and I'll just leave it at that. You b4r types have your convictions and I got mine.

    Wonder if this Olivia is still going to Eve Vegas?

    What a perfect crime Sad I'm gonna learn how to stop caring eventually.
