I spent $20 on data to download everything and stayed up all night to piece meal the data planes because im in Africa and the

main source of internet is via phone unless you have the money to shell out 320 usd a month for 1 MB net that runs 13-38 KB/s.

I downloaded everything it said I needed about 2 GB of data + some for launcher patches, but every time I start the game its

downloading something in the back ground consuming massive amounts of data causing me to be able to not play the game

because I have to worry about data running out during an activity plus do trips out to the shop to buy more phone cards.

so the question is, since I downloaded EVERYTHING, what is downloading in the background, because it doesn't tell you nothing

other than the taskbar icon slowly filling green.

There's small 10 - 20mb updates almost daily.

I'd consider it pretty much hopeless to play EVE under those conditions. The almost daily patches are very annoying even for me with a decent 60 MBit connection. Especially great when you get a pvp ping and every minute counts, and then you're stuck patching... almost every goddamn day. As 95% of these small patches don't seem to be doing anything very important, they should bundle them for a weekly update imho. No daily patches unless it's actually a critical bugfix.

Thats harsh OP, good luck.

To think this game was once designed to run on dial-up.
No wonder bitter vets are so bitter, they still waiting on updates.

Every alt I own has a red safety, this has brought my friends much laughter.

It's a damned good thing disk is cheap.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno

Best solution it to (when you can log on), put some long term skills to train and just wait till you get back to your homeland.

My suggestion would be to get a friend in RL do an iso or whatever, someone you trust though in RL, to then ship the CD to you.

Tbh Id love for CCP to make this available for those people. A CD in postage will be cheaper than the plans. I realize its just a fringe portion of the player base but itd be a handy option.

I once sent a package of Tim Hortons coffee and a toque to a friend in Switzerland for Christmas. The shipping was more than the gift was.Roll Would do it again though in a heartbeat to see their face light up.
A CD would be super cheap to catch up from time to time. Friends are nice people. Even had Eve players offer to send me old video cards and stuff. Blink

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

And my gamefolder is over 100GB in size.

Now how is that?
Can it be, that the game on default is set to download and install bouth the TQ, SiSI and Duality?
Cant remember when I last installed the game so it might have changed since then.

Agondray, try to open the Launcher and in the lover left corner, click on "Settings". A funktion menu should pop up.
This Menu have 4 tabs on it.
The first one is called "General". Remove the mark out for "Download everything".
The second one is called "Test Servers". Click on that.
Now remove the mark out for the servers you don't want to use.

Click "Save" and yo should be able to play the game without to much downloading in the bagground.
Just remember, that since you stop downloading everything, you might run into downloads duing the game as is the funtion of Download on Demand

The term Africa is to broad. Please be specific so you do not put all africans like myself in the same boat.

Or I will come after you and your corp in EVE when you are able to to connect. Not that I will see if you are online since CCP decided in their infinite lack of wisdom to remove watch lists.

Atleast in South Africa as a afrikaaner I enjoy fibre connected internet.

But yeah, while eve is good with high latency connections it will keep downloading until it has done a couple of gigs.

Not to mentioned the updates. They easiest, cost effective might be to have somebody ship you mem stick with a full client on it. And you just to a repair on it.

For what it is worth:

EVE Online Installer via BitTorrent

Can be useful for people with poor network connections.

I expect CCP will be making the next updated release on or after Nov 8th.

FYI: CCP made a new installer release today, r1086194. I'll update my torrent thread with it shortly.

EDIT: It is 8,383,227,154 bytes [7.8 GiB]
