Stupid PI Question

I’m new to PI and have a question for the experts. I have my first colony set up. It’s running happily along and I see Tier 2 products being deposited into my Launchpad.

My setup:
Extractor > Storage > Basic Industrial Facility > back to same Storage > Advanced Industrial Facility > Launchpad.

There are raw materials stacking up in my storage as expected, but I also see a large quantity labeled “not routed” in the extractor. When I click on “Products” in the extractor window it lists 2110 base metals as “Routed” and a second listing of 9245 base metals “Not Routed”. Why are these not routed? The route from the extractor to the storage is running at 100%. Will upgrading the link help?

I had to upgrade my link ONCE from extractor to storage. If you have your extractor set on shorter cycles this is more of a problem; if you do longer cycles, it doesn't use up the capacity as much.

Try it and see what happens! IIRC it doesnt cost anything to upgrade links. If it doesnt solve your problem you can always delete it and create the lvl 0 link again. Smile

Unless you're producing a lot, just run everything through the launchpad. It's a big store, and if it's sitting mostly empty, you're wasting cpu and pg which you might be able to use for another extractor head.

extractor -> launchpad -> basic -> launchpad -> advanced -> launchpad.

Woo! CSM XI!

Thank you both for the help. Hadn't thought of routing raw material to a launchpad. That's a good idea.

I'll try upgrading the link from the extractor, too. I'm not at home, so can't try it yet. I'm still wondering about the "not routed" material. Is it lost, or just waiting to be moved?

this is badly worded. as anything left in the extractor is of course not used. however,

the extractor has storage space built into it but is not displayed.
you can route excess material from your extractors to a storage site or leave it there.

I dont believe that material stored at the extractor will cycle through processors if there is no extraction cycle running (ie if you forget to cycle everything) however if you have it set to ship to a storage area it will stil ship when there is no extraction cycle set up

Sometimes, you all make me very disappointed.

So far I have not had a planet where storage wouldn't be a total waste of power. Launchpads are superior in every way. And planetary launches through your command center are a complete joke because the CC has so little storage space.
