Dumped from server. Socket Closed.

Ever since the server reboot yesterday ( 14/10/16) I am being dumped from the server every hour. Often mid transaction or fight ( so it's not an 'Idle' thing ).

This is clearly not useful.

It was fine for 3 weeks, then just started with this 'socket closed' issue after yesterdays reboot.

Anyone else? I'm pretty sure that it's not my kit.

Try connecting via a VPN, that usually fixes socket closed errors for me as the connection is routed differently

VPN's cost money. Seeing as I am already on Fibre I'd rather CCP actually fix it.

Have you tried any of the possible solutions in this thread:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=495843&p=2

It's not official 'fixes' since CCP donĀ“t seem to know what the issues are but perhaps there's some info there.

CCP is aware and they are currently working on possible issues.

It's not ideal, but I don't mind helping CCP a bit.

You need to find someone in your physical region that's getting socket closed problems. Get traceroutes that prove which provider is dropping packets. Then mail it to CCP. Since it's usually some third party that is ruining it rather than CCP, or they add people in some regions to exemption lists. Eve is really really really intolerant to delayed/lost packets and similar, so if someone along the chain decides to do UTTERLY NORMAL OPTIMIZATIONS like combining packets or similar you're SOL.

It's what I've needed to do to get socket closed problems to go away.

Socket closed errors? Whats this?
For me, they have ceased to exist after Tranquilty tech III. They connection is so stable now, its unreal. Im connected almost every day for 12h, sometimes even 23.5h and i have gotten only 2 socked closed errors since January.

It's actually a connection speed issue. Works fine on a slow VPN, and gets flakey on the full-speed fibre. That's usually the data-centre.

Building speed control into the client, like Dungeons & Dragons online does, would help. If EVE really is that fragile TCP-wise then they need to look at buffering.

I'm running some tests now with a 3rd party software that can restrict the speed Exe.file connects at. 4mb/s is too fast ( errors ). Now trying 1mb/s and game appears stable.

Correction. 350 kb/s max up & down seems to be my sweet spot ( where game is stable enough & server does not shat itself ).

I'm using this to throttle the exefile:

https://netbalancer.com

Not ideal, as it's a bit cranky; but it's smoother than a crappy freebie VPN.

Now if someone could build some connection speed control into the Launcher & game client that would be peachy.

It's not CCP's fault nor is it in their hands, the issue is that some ISP along the route is fcking up. All CCP can do is try and pinpointing the one it is and ask really nicely if they'd please fix it.

Also, there's free VPN.

Fast VPN's cost money. Slow ones make for a bad gaming experience.

And seeing as CCP can ask them nicely to fix it that is, well, CCP.

I am working on a player-side fix too. See my post above about controlling the speed the client connects at to stabilise the connection between gamer & server.

I'm still testing speeds at present. It's like how you tune your home broadband connection ( on a copper cable ). If there are a lot of errors then slow it down a bit. And, obviously, notify the local Phone Exchange crowd that errors are showing up.

Level 3 has been having some major issues and that seems to be causing alot of the problems people are experiencing. Check out this reddit post. https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/57v9jq/socket_closed_i_think_i_figured_it_out/
