Bumping Mechanic Suggestion

Some recent activity has given me an idea about the bumping mechanic. I think shields should be able to absorb the energy from a bump, especially with Kinetic amplifiers. The current mechanic is like 2 marbles (albeit of different masses) hitting each other, which doesn't take into account the shields ability to absorb energy. For example, fitting large shield extenders and getting the Kinetic resistance very high should dissipate the energy from the bump without moving the ship, but the shields should take damage. If and when the shields run out then the bump should affect the ship.

Thoughts?

Nah.

There's already a time limit on bumping isn't there? if you can't be bothered to use a scout and web yourself into warp faster, then just use that.

why bother there are already so many tools to use against bumping but even when ccp adds more people don't use them

So i can bump someones raven in a mission and get their ship destroyed?

The Jita undock would become scrap warfare straight out of Mad Max if this happened.

And an interesting side note i read somewhere CCP is or has given out another bump nerf allowing any ship whose warp drive remains active for 3 minutes without direct tackle to enter warp regardless of alignment. Not sure if this has deployed yet or not though or if it was smoke and mirrors given my lack of citation.

Damage from bumping has been suggested over and over.

It's one of the worst ideas possible and would work totally against the intended effect.

Also, freighters can't fit shield extenders, neither in the mids (have none), nor through rigs (have none).

Not yet. CCP hinted it once or twice, but it got very quickly very silent around the hinted "3 minutes to warp no matter what timer".

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

No time limit on bumping, at least not yet, but there needs to be. Unitl a few day ago I was on your side in this debate, those who cannot be bothered to use the tools at your disposal deserve to be bumped and held for the gank fleet. As I said that all changed a few days ago, I had a brief period to be online so I thought move that ship that needs to be moved. Made it about 2 gates and messed up and got caught by the bumpers, not sure how long but it was probably 2 to 3 minutes later I am still sitting there trying to move on hoping all the while that these idiots would just muster the troops and shoot me to get it over with or ggo away and leave me alone. But that gank squad never did arrive and my available time ended so I simply logged leaving ship and pod to whatever the fates held for them.

Yes it was essentially my fault I got caught, even so there needs to be some limit placed on bumping. I was never a fan of the 3 minute auto warp because I am not a fan of the game solving player problems. I would suggest that the 3 minute auto warp idea be replaced with a 3 minutes and then the bumpers go criminal mechanic instead. To me this gives the bumpers a reasonable amount of time to muster the gank squad and get it done if that is their intent. If they cannot then it gives the person being bumped a chance to deal with the issues directly and forcefully. Yes I know there are other ways to handle this but to me the criminal flag makes sense. The person being bumped still has the opportunity to deal with the situation directly and forcefully, unlike the other options it opens up some real risks to the bumpers from every other player in the area. And yet the 3 minute window means that those who are bumping for a gank squad and still do that without the extra hassles of the criminal flag.

I think it would be reasonable that a freighter could equip some form of a capture module. If it's X km off of gates and stations - it could activate the capture function and attempt to capture any ship bumping into it. It would have a proximity range to stations, gates and other structures like a smart bomb to prevent jita undock abuse and so on. It would also have no criminal flagging (just like bumping).

The module would do some basic speed and direction checks on the incoming ship if the module is active. If it determines there is a bump in progress then there can be a dice roll to see if the bumping ship is captured. If the chance % is met, the freighter opens a side door, the bumping ship gets tractored in and locked down and the bumping pilot's pod is ejected. Ship capture complete.

The freighter would have to have enough free cargo space to hold the ship.

fyi I would buy a freighter just to use this mechanic to steal incursion ships.

Odd that. 3 minutes sounds reasonable. Most times these peeps are in system or adjacent. Can't gather up the posse in 3 minutes on a ping, that would be on them really.

Is there a ship/fit combo that has an align time greater than 3 minutes that would be an issue since it makes out better?

Not a why is this game so harsh type but....this bumping stuff is just a crap mechanic all in all. Either commit to pop the target or find something else to occupy your time. If I got got...fine. Lets not play around, drop me so I can go on to other things. Hell even in low sec on a few muggings on another char I typed in local lets skip the forepley of ransom...just kill the ship and lets go to the bonus round and see if you get the pod too.
