Lower sensor strength on Cheetah than Probe?

Hi all,

I noticed something odd regarding my Cheetah and wanted to see if anyone may have come across this as well.

So I bought a Cheetah for exploration and while it's been great for cloaking, I haven't been getting the scanning results that I had been with my probe. I looked at the base sensor strength for both and the sensor strength on my Probe ended up being 13 points higher than my Cheetah.

I thought this was weird, so I did a little experiment and took out all of my fitting except my rigs (I gave my probe the same rigs as my Cheetah--Small Ancillary Current Router I, and Small Emission Scope Sharpener I) and the results were pretty much the same.

I looked at the sensors in the stats for both ships and the Cheetah has a ladar of 20 and the Probe 9, so it seems like the Cheetah should provide a much higher base scan strength, but for some reason doesn't on my ships. Is that just the way that it's supposed to be or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Arent you mistaking sensor strenght and probes sensor strenght ?

Yes, but that's just the first problem.

Ladar sensor strength just determines how hard you are to jam and scan down. It has nothing to do with probes.

Probe scan strength is determined by:

1) Astrometrics
2) Astrometric Rangefinding
3) Fitting
4) Ship bonuses

The discrepancy you're seeing is from the last factor. From ship descriptions:

Probe: Minmatar Frigate skill bonus per level:
7.5% increase to scan strength of probes
5% bonus to Salvager cycle time

Cheetah: Minmatar Frigate Skill Bonus:
5% bonus to Small Projectile Turret Damage per level
10% bonus to Small Projectile Turret Optimal Range per level

Covert Ops Skill Bonus:
20% reduced CPU need for Cloaking Devices per level
10% increase to scan strength of probes per level
10% reduction to survey probe flight time per level

What does that end up meaning? The Cheetah (and all covops ships) actually have worse bonuses then their T1 counterparts until you've trained at least Covert Ops to 4. 5 is just a bonus. Until then, having racial frigate at 5 and using a T1 hull is actually better (37.5% bonus to scan strength versus 30% bonus at Covert Ops 3).

Ahhhh...that's where I went wrong, for some reason I wasn't registering the 'per level' part on the CovOps skill bonus. Total whiff on my part. Thanks for compiling the info, too! It looks like I know what I'll be training next.

I wasn't convinced the sensor strength had anything to do with scanning either, but I read it in a forum post, so I thought I'd add it in. A reminder to take a larger grain of salt with me when reading reddit :).

Thanks again!
