Not sure if this is the right place to post this so i do appologise if it isn't

I feel if EVE is to keep growing we need to be seen in the real world more, with the changes that have happened like (free to start) there is little in the world (real life) that shows what a great life (erm.... game) this is.
I know that adverts can be very expensive and time consuming to make but I was hooked on the 'This is EVE II' vid but something like that with all the new graphics and fast pase would atract new blood (still love that vid!!)
I feel we need to see Eve where we least expect it not just in magazines beings drowned out by luke warm games with money thrown at them to make them look good (no names will be mentioned on that one P)
I'm not having a go at whats being done at the mo, but I feel there is something missing, not being done, something main stream ....
or maybe its just I start to feel bereft if I haven't seen something about Eve at least once a day!

Back when I was a kid, videogames used to be advertised on TV, and, I must admit, the ads did have some appeal. So did Christmas catalogues, magazine articles and posters of different kinds, but all this was true in that marvellous era known as "Before The Internet". We now live in a whole different world, where any information is just a couple of mouse clicks away, and the media compete for shoving ads down your throat. In my opinion, video game ads are more annoying than anything. If anyone ever asks while watching an ad for World of Tanks, or Warface, or some other piece of goat crap: "[Salah's owner], do you play that ****?" - my only answer will be: "Hell, no!"

I mean, everybody knows that I'm a bloody nerd, but EVE is - and, I guess, will always be - my dirty little secret. It might be my subjective perception, but I doubt that any medium outside the Internet and some videogame-oriented venues would be worth the cost.

I think the best ad for eve is stuff that happens in game and media report on that.. the time when ads where made up and fed to the people are over, everybody got a decent ad blocker in their heads now.. I skip all of that.. excitement must come from what happens in the game, player made videos and all that kind of stuff..

The problem is you're not willing to pay what it takes to fund an ad campaign. Once again, an idea from people who think money grows on trees, and TV stations just give away air time - yes, you could create the commercial on your own computer using freeware. . . for FREE!!

Besides, only airheads with no internet experience don't know about EVE. Not knowing about EVE is like not knowing about baseball, or that other game . . . *ugh* SOCCER. You'd literally have to have your head shoved into a toilet not to know.

SO...this Try Not To Think award needs to be dusted off.

Let's be seen...while we're at it

Let's eat food!

Let's wear shoes!

Let's listen with our ears!

Let's...try to post usefully in future.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

The first time I heard about EVE was because a Danish TV news channel did a story on EVE because some battle had occured which made an alliance come together at a LAN party. Some other danes may be more accurate about this, it was many years ago.

The thing that got me started with EVE was the butterfly effect which vid that was shared by Machinima, some 7 years ago on youtube.

Anyone remember those Eve Magazines? I don't remember who made them, and they were canceled before I got into the world here, but I loved the idea of them.

That "Eve Online Funny Trailer" is amazing, btw. Breathtaking Dogfights nearly killed me. Oh the old UI, how I don't miss it.

When I posted this I thought I would get a lot of flack ....not as much as I thought I would
I wasn't even sure I would get any reply at all to be honest, then I asked myself why post at all, what made me post at all this 'usless post' as its been referred to
I've been in pod for many years and seen many changes, some I like some I don't, but always this game has always been driven to new heights, the graphics are the best I have ever seen, the game play is so veried that you can do anything you want.
But something made me pause and take another look at the the login page and how many were on at the time.
There have been times when I have seen numbers rise and fall like all online games anything from 50k to 30k on at the time I logged on but never as low as I saw that time, and that got me thinking and slightly worried.
I ask myself who will be the next generation of Eve players going to be, how will they find out about Eve and yes everything seems to be one click away on the net now, but unless you know what buttons to press you wont know, if you don't know an Eve player how will you know, are there people out there that have never heard of Eve but would play if they did.
why did I post..
To make you think
To make you discuss the way Eve gets to those poor souls who are missing out.
CCP know they can never sit still on there awards (and I hope to god they they never do)
The replies to this post have dulled my fears but they are not gone.
will my son be old enough to take over when my health fails completely (not for many years I hope lol )
will Eve still be around for many years (gods I hope so)
Why is this so important to me, well its simple it expands my Imagination, it reflects life in its way, both good and bad from the safety of a chair, I have made friends and enemy's and lost myself in the stars and I would love to share this with as many people as possible.
So why don't I ...
I try but when it comes to the net and all the stuff that can be done I am overwelmed by it ,am I too old for this, well I used to play Elite on a Commodore 64 so yes in the world of computors I am ....
I just hope there are more vids made and posted on social media and put out there so more will see and more will come.

I was transitioning out of Microsoft's flight sims as the code was getting a bit arthritic after being abandoned and thrown under several big buses so just for the hell of it I entered "space simulator" in a search engine, several hits came back, one was Eve and I'm now on my third year. The only thing I've ever seen that could be construed as an ad was that total piece of crap trailer that depicted a giant shoot'em up, band of brothers, all that BS, that bears actually no connection to day to day play.

Yes, the online game world is a highly competitive environment, and yes, I concede I've aged past the drama seeking demographic, but the unpleasant truth just may be the fact that Eve's strong points may be difficult to impossible to quantify in a commercial. Things like building for the future, gambling ship and fit decisions on far off ops against unknown opponents, balancing skill sets and experience, seeking out regions and fields to operate in, all the unglamorous and petty things that must be done before sticking your nose somewhere that someone may feel like you shouldn't.

I can understand CCP going after the younger demographic as the 18 to 40 year olds tend to be a lot freer with their money than us old coots, but it may just be a losing gamble as the older set may just be the core that keeps Eve alive. The kids will come then go as they find something a bit more showy on their cell phones but the old guys plod along with multi-accounts paid in full year after year.

Can a sandbox game like Eve attract and retain both types of players? That might just be the key to survival.

And yes, I actually like the trailer, it's just not the game I'm playing.

The best advertisement is a personal story from someone you know and trust. Someone close enough to you that their story and opinions matter to YOU. These will always be the best advertising and most often it is the free kind.

Facebook and other social media presents us with a HUGE advantage these days in getting our stories across to the multitude and that it will no longer cost OTHERS anything but a few minutes of time to create a new character and download the game to play come November is a HUGE chance to spread that news... FREELY!! To everyone and anyone. Tell them YOUR story. Not Eves story, because Eves story is OUR story. Yours and mine both. Because we shape this story by our presence and our actions.

Tell others YOUR story and show them how much it means to them. Emotions and feelings are conveyed in real time in real face to face conversations much better in personal and intimate encounters that might only last 10-20secs than by an add seen on TV or the internet and have WAY more meaning coming from YOU than from some nameless, faceless actor or actress in some sound bite.

Now is the time to tell others. Because hey!! why not right?!! They have ZERO arguments against it now... its FREE!! and nothing is better than FREE!!Big smile

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.
