why would we do that? we dont want to join your corp

If it won't give me anything that shouldn't be public information anyway, and you have nothing to hide - then that is no excuse.

Now you are sounding shifty and suspicious >_>

I'll go ahead and assume that you are a scumbag who should be banned from your current corp and all future corps - because you refuse a simple API request. I mean...WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?!?

On a serious note - Sonya Corvinus already gave the obvious answer, and worded it better than you. If you are going to needlessly re-post other people's ideas, please try to be creative at least P

there is a clear difference in handing an api to a group you want to fly with and a group who provides you with content than some "dirty forum alt" who you have no desire to associate with, if i wish to join a corp i have no issues handing out full api's for all my characters, who said anything about public information, i choose who views my assets, transactions and mails, not you.

I'll go with that since something as simple as pointing out that you literally re-posted exactly what Sonya said - but more blandly - is all it took to confuse you...

This was a 30 man corp. When I logged, only 5 had been online within the last month. Only I was online, four of the five times I logged in. The one time I did log when someone else was on, there was only one other toon who had joined the day after me. I waved. He said nothing.

I'd say this is your fault for trying to join a corp that only had five active people in a month. Didn't you look into the corp before joining?

I don't like API thing eiher, but paranoia is easily understandable. Likr I said in previous post, in my corp anyone who has a role that can hurt the corp is a RL friend whom we can gank IRL if sh*ts go wrong.

Disclaimer: we never violenced anyone IRL because of in game stuff. Saying this just so we don't get reported lol.

Tell me: do you really think that you can catch someone so high up by checking his API? Goons had to set up an elaborated computer trap to find the snitch director.
To check what you can fly is okay. Where you get and give your money too. But what do you want with the emails? Do you really think a spy will communicate with the other corp over ingame mail?

No. I definitely do not think API help in catching such potential problems, and I personally do not like API request at all and think it doesn't offer level of security that a corp/alliance needs. Only thing it's good for is extremely basic stuff.

What I said was said to help casual applicants to corps/alliance understand that paranoia is necessary for these entities. I agree with you that API is not a serious solution. My point was just that paranoia is justified, but maybr API is not the best answer.

OK seriously - trolling/insults aside:

There is no real danger in giving your API to people. Some of us are uncomfortable with the principle of the matter - but realistically it isn't like they can't find out 99% of the information from other sources with a little extra work if they care enough anyway. The only possible exception to this is your eve-mails... But #1 you probably shouldn't be discussing anything too private in game anyway - use out of game email to talk to your friends/family about personal subjects, #2 You can always *delete* your emails - I don't believe the API keeps archives if you delete them fully in game, they should vanish from the API within an hour or so at most, and #3 They could probably scrape half the eve-mails from the *other party's* API keys if they cared *enough* to put in the required effort.

So if you find a group you really want to join, and they require a full API key for some reason - rest assured, they probably won't even use it, and even if they do it isn't going to tell them anything they can't learn anyway.

That being said - there is also no ****ing reason that anybody other than the super-serious or "elite" groups in EVE ever actually *needs* your API key for any valid reason either. AWOXing doesn't exist anymore, and clean accounts for spies are trivial to create these days. So if you are like me and you really don't like giving out extra information of any sort - just don't. There are still plenty of very good groups out there that either won't ask for your API or won't notice if you never bother to give it to them. It just takes a little extra searching.

But complaining about the API requirement is silly - they can run their corp however they want, and it is our *choice* not to cooperate.

As for the OP's idea that they'll get jealous... Let them P That is their own fault P

Oooh, jump on my main eh? Yeah...never heard that one before... P

People like you are a large part of why I prefer using an obvious forum alt honestly - I love watching how much it bothers you, as if it makes any difference.

Even if I posted with my main the worst you could do would be an empty war-dec....but simply by posting on my forum alt I'm winning the psychological war by denying you even that.

Rest assured though my main (and most of my alts) have clean API keys and excellent combat records - I'm sure I could get through the recruitment process to join *your* corp (assuming it is recruiting). Wouldn't that be fun? Don't worry though, I'm not going to bother. Probably... P

They might be able to piece together the details of what this character does, and they might figure out what the other two have been doing.
They will have a little more trouble putting the other two with this one without an API key.

Lan Wang has a point, it's childish to get all holier than thou about api key privacy while hiding behind a forum posting alt. If you have nothing to hide, why not post with your main?

Umm...Nobody read the parts where I've repeatedly said I don't even give out my API key except on my dedicated AWOXing alt - who isn't even active anymore?

*You Guys/Gals* are the people who claim to have nothing to hide. I've been openly hiding things from the beginning. That makes *the rest of you* the hypocrites for hiding things now - not me for continuing to do what I've been openly advocating the entire time.

See what I mean? P

True, but it can still be done. Also that is information you get even with a basic blank key - the point being that checking all the boxes to make it a "full" key doesn't really add much.

first off, people like me? yet "you" are the one who started insults, so "you" are the reason you hide behind alts

2nd, if its just an empty wardec then post on your main.

3rd, because we dont want to hand our api's to some random potty mouthed forum alt doesn't mean we have anything to hide.

4th, join my corp, do you think that would actually bother me?

Lan & Others - My initial post demanding your API keys was clearly sarcastic, not serious.

If anyone was dumb enough to actually send me their API key in response to it I'd have been shocked.

Since you started yelling at me over it - yes, I've been trolling you. It is a bad habit I know, but I couldn't resist P

However since the conversation is literally just going in circles now and your sarcasm detector seems to be broken, just figured I'd explicitly clue you in...

As for posting on my main - Go **** yourself. I don't give away free intel to anybody, and I really do enjoy watching how much it bothers you. Deal with it or get off the forums until my account expires. 3 more weeks to go.

edit: Oh - and "people like you" means people who get all bothered and upset by people posting on alts. I enjoy watching you squirm and cry. Yes, I'm probably a bad person. Oh well. P
