Extended jump range calculations

I think its commonplace in science fiction that spaceships have to calculate their jump coordinates before they can make their jumps. My proposal is to introduce something similar to Eve.

Allow capital ships to jump beyond 5LY ranges, but to do so ships need to make jump calculations. These calculations are managed from a new tab in Capital Navigation-window and would take from few hours to several days.

Stuff:
- Only doable when in space. Docking, tethering or logging off halts the process
- Cloaking would increase the calculation time
- Only one calculation at a time. Allow storing finished calculations
- Ejecting resets all progress
- Ship is not required to be at starting or destination system to conduct the calculations between two systems

I believe that this mechanic wouldn't benefit large alliances. Spies learning jump destinations or offlining structures where calculations were run might pose serious threat. Or enemy would simply deploy cyno jammers.

Smaller, tightknit groups or individuals would benefit the most from this mechanic. Relocating assets or projecting their meager power over larger distances.

Thoughts?

the fact that you put that sentence together and didn't see the problem in undoing the point of the jump range and fatigue changes....

also just a tip anything that benefits the little guy will be exploited by the big guy it doesn't matter what it is.

i'm not going to touch on the idea itself as that is just way to bad but here is a bonus tip. If you have to put huge penalties on a mechanic to make it balanced(ie forcing it to take days to load) its probably time to go back to the drawing board with the entire idea

You obviously didn't put too many of those into your idea, if you declare it impossible to use halfway through the post.

I don't want changes to jump fatigue or jumps less than 5ly. Those would work as usual.

It would be done while cloaked in safespot or within a pos shield.

Yet cloaking extends it, and downtime deletes all progress?

I'd rather see a new form of navigation a Dev hinted at about a year ago.

Maybe like the way ships traveled in Babylon V or similar.

If warp mechanics changed I'd vote for wh40k setup.

YOu may not land where you wanted....the tides of the warp said screw you and your plans.

Or another fun option is your ship is basically destroyed, if only because chaos demons have infested it and killed everything inside. Since eve doesn't have chaos demons...they'd have to improvise here.

Long calculations take several days. Logging off/downtime halts the process. Pos shields are being removed. cloaking slows it down. concept is very poorly thought out.

The timer is to make this impractical for larger entities. They would have to keep their caps logged in and announce systems to their members. This would make it easier to counter.

why exactly is them having their caps logged in more disadvantages for larger groups than others? and why would i have to announce the system to my members?

also you do understand the limits on power projection were not just put in place for large entities right?

Knowing exactly where PL are going to shove 300 nyx in a week doesn't actually allow you to counter a 300 strong PL nyx fleet.

Knowing where someone is planning to shove capitals would be very valuable intel nonetheless. And 300 Nyxes + support would travel as normal anyway.

Alliance would have to inform their capital pilots the systems from where they are jumping and their destination. You wouldn't want this intel to leak, would you?
Then your cap pilots would have to keep their boats logged in, in space to do the magick. Larger alliances always have stragglers, people with jobs and family, who didn't log for few days and miss mails and notifications.
And spies... Do you trust your alliance? Would you leave your cap ship afk overnight at pos? You could do it cloaked in safe but it would result longer timer.

Small groups and solo players who don't have trust issues would have easier time travelling and crossing region gaps.

Yet another in the long line of I want this, that way the jump range and jump fatigue limits will only affect the "other" people in the game.

Only comment I can make is take this one out back and shoot it and bury it. Better than it deserves but ISD and nanny bot will not allow me to say what I really think so........

'Hey guys we're deploying to venal, set your calculations to H-PA29 and try not to end up in Rakapas you bunch of scrubs'

How would that scenario be any different to the recent imperium move from Lonetrek to Delve, which took at least a week just for the main body? A week in which our destination was not secret at all, when we had caps, supers and subs straggling all over the game, and nothing major happened.

And how would this work when pos are removed?

Large entities would be better off moving as usual. Thats the whole point.
Allow longer jump ranges but large scale power projection would remain the same. Right?

I don't see pos removal being a problem for this idea.
