EVE Kickstarter: LEGO Astero (instructions)

About a year ago, I posted this Lego Astero on the forums:

In the original thread, the reactions were very positive, and some people were interested in getting a parts list + instructions in order to build it themselves.
Since I'm back after a long break from Eve, I figured I might just make those instructions after all.

But I thought I'd make this something along the lines of a Kickstarter campaign: if we reach the goal (posted below) before the deadline, every participant will get a parts list + instructions to build this nifty-looking Astero.

Why the campaign? I'm just a guy with a regular job and a finite amount of leisure time. If I do actually make the effort to create instructions, I'd appreciate your appreciation in the form of a donation. Cool

If this goes well, who knows, I may create another ship. Feel free to give me some suggestions.


The goal: 1 billion isk (lol I have no idea whether this is a good amount or not, we'll see how this pans out Roll )

I would be happy to buy finished product, but according to EULA i shall only be able to pay in ISK while you'd have to pay RL cash for the parts and delivery, so not sure if that's an acceptable thing.

But anyways, very nice work!

The way I read it you would get a list of the exact parts and instructions about how to build it, not a completed model posted out...

You would then go buy the parts yourself and build the model yourself, or get one of your kids on the job :)

Ginger, yeah I get that. If I had all the parts it would be fun to build myself, but going around shopping for exact parts is troublesome. I'm just lazy lol

there was a lego game on pc (free game) where you can build stuff then lego will send you the whole kit including instructions Blink

Edit: lego dont offer that service anymore :(

So instead of making the instructions, posting them and THEN asking for a voluntary donation, you have the audacity to ask for this 'donation' ahead of time and if you don't get enough you're not going to go through with it?

GTFO mate, seriously. Either make a contribution to the EVE community or don't. Don't go around demanding money for it, that is all kinds of not cool.

lots of people run eve businesses, i dont see how this is different to the dozens of spreadsheet, ts servers, design services happening right now, if he works for it then he should be paid, personally i wouldnt have even mentioned donation id have said "this is the price".

Any other game community and people would share creations like this without second thought, just to be able to share it. In EVE people want ISK for everything, even something as simple as this, because they feel entitled to be paid for their work.

And this is not running a business or doing anything that influences in-game events. This is just a fun little contribution to the EVE community.

Here we have a wild Goon complaining about people making isk from work they do while they have been known to run kickstarters to write books to profit themselves without giving it to the community for free in ebook format.

If you cannot comprehend the complete and utter difference between those two then I can't and won't even bother to explain it to you.

What's next, Rixx Javix is going to continue making awesome EVE art, but demands he is paid 100m ISK before he publishes every work? No. That is not how community spirit works and that is not the kind of community we should be encouraging here.

maybe you should pop by the sell orders subforum and complain to all the spreadsheet makers, 3rd party services, ts hosting etc etc about community spirit and how they should do stuff for free.
