Hi Eve People

Just wondering about combat recons and dsan detection.

Normally you cant see the ship on dscan but whats the limits?

-Is there a safe range, not beeing detected and seeing other players?

Cheers

They can still see you with combat probes or if you're close enough for the overview to pick you up.

If I understand your question correctly, then the safe range is anything off-grid (or on-grid but cloaked). A Combat Recon cannot be detected by DScan at all, no matter how near or far you are from the other person. The only ways they'll be able to see you are if you're on-grid with them and uncloaked or if they use combat probes to find you.

Just remember that combat probes can scan from outside of your own DScan range, so it's possible that someone will have probes near the edges of the system and essentially ping them to see if anything is around. If they're watching their own DScan and see a ping bug can't find anything as they warp around the system, it's a fairly clear sign that there's a Combat Recon there, even if they don't have a confirmation from their probes.

Intel in EVE can be as much about what you don't see as what you do see.

There's always that flash of 8 probes on dscan immediately after launch unless they happen to be out of range.

Generally, at that range:
They can't identify exactly what you are. They can kind of figure you're cruiser sized by the strength of the return. Depending on how good their probing skills are, they can figure out: "Hey, that guy's 2 AU away and I can't see him on dscan!"

Generally, when they've got their probes set at max range, they'll be using pinpoint formation with two of them close to the sun, because the simplest way to combat probe for the presence of whatever is to launch pinpoint (which centers on the sun) and expand to 64 AU radius.

The grid is 8000km around you. If someone is inside this 16000km bubble, unless you are cloaked, they will see you on their overview and in space.

it's not necessarily 8000km but yeah it's pretty huge now.
