Seriously, I really like the looks of the phoon and wish to use it, either the regular or the faction. Does anyone have a good tip on how to fit it and use it in any PvE situation?

Skills are not a problem.

Thanks

Pve use: Sell on the market (well, technically that's pvp vOv) and buy a mael.

I guess you could do something with 4 ACs, 4 cruise launchers but youre probably better off with a mael.

Fleet phon, 5 AC 3 torps, armor tank and 3 gyro/1bcs on 8 lows, if you want fast BS but can't afford Mach, or fly Minmatar but can only armor tank for some reason...

I briefly used it for roaming exploration so I wouldn't need any refits, but without good Sentry skills I couldn't get the necessary DPS out of it.

If I was really bored and had the isk to throw away...

Zip up to the target at 1,400 m/s, web it down to 19% of speed, reverse course to get them to chase you, release the houndsdrones, and unload. In theory, the dual webs should be all the tracking management you need.

raw DPS: 899
tank: 768 peak versus Sansha/BR.

I hear arty/sentry/cruise fits aren't terrible - obviously there are better ships out there, but you'll be able to complete missions decently fast with a full gank fit and look stylish while doing so.

This is probably your best bet. 1200's and cruise launchers with T2 sentries.

Though I still find my gank rail/sentry Dominix completes missions more quickly (I have come to hate the cycle time of arties, and since the buff rails in missions are surprisingly good).

This one time, I like, totally did some stuff.

Now you find Rails better? So, not before, when you also had a 20-25% extra damage bonus?! Really, artillery isn't really that great for PvE. Unlike PvP, alpha doesn't really matter, and artillery have the lowest DPS of the long range guns... Especially if fitted on a ship that has no bonuses for them.

I simply don't get why so many people fit projectile weapons on a Dominix, even if hybrids are a little weak.

Beeecaaauseee ->
1) many have gallente BS 5 due to thanatos being awesome, and
2) good projectile spec skills due to minmatar being awesome.
3) Noone looked at hybrids (specially rails) till "yesterday" so pretty much only real enthusiast trained large rail spec, out of pure masohism I guess

1) + 2) + 3) = projectiles on dominix \o/

Phoon is a very nice solo wormhole ship for class 2 wormholes. It has many utility slots (Probe Scanner + Salvager + Tractor Beam) and can tank very well as well as project damage with drones and cruise missiles at good range. Just keep an eye on your drones ;-)
