L3 Security Missions

Ok, so first off, so far my training has been towards Shields, Minmatar Ships & Projectile weapons.

Currently I am at a loss about what ship to fly for L3 missions, as all the fits I have found is armor fits. Quite frankly my armor skills are horrible right now.

What are my options? Train armor skills or somehow make one of the Battlecruisers work using shields.

Edit: My drone skills are okay, however I have only trained light drones.

Shield Machariel with 800mm autocannons? It should crank through L3s fairly quickly...

Unfortunately that ship is not entirely within my means right now (Both ISK & SP). I can however afford either the Hurricane Fleet Issue or the Gnosis, both of which was suggested to me ingame.

Thanks for the advice. Machariel is one of the mail reasons I chose to train Minmatar ships, it looks amazing. Could you possibly link me to the fit you were referring to so I can adjust my training if needed?

I think until then I will give the Gnosis a try.

A BC will demolish level 3 missions. A large cap battery beam phantasm will also stomp L3s, and aligns and gates quicker, you have to manually pilot and occasionally pulse the shield booster so it is a bit busier than waiting for arties to cycle in a 'cane, or missile travel time with a drake.
If you blitz L3s for standing repair, there is no better ship than the sleipnir if you have the skills and isk. 720mm arties one shell npc frigates, and rat BCs seldom take more than one volley. Between the availability of L3 agents and the number of storyline missions you generate, L3s are the way to go for standings repair/gain. You could run a mach since it is in the same price range, but large guns have a higher overhead cost and every L3 mission rat is beneath the sig resolution of your guns.

Hurricane can do excellent shield fit and works great as a long range Arty boat in level 3 missions. Compared to the 720mm Arty's, the 650mm Arty's have better tracking, faster reload and use less powergrid and CPU for fitting.

I use T2 munitions for easy selection in game play - Tremor (long range, less DPS), Quake (short range, more DPS) and Inferno Fury Heavy Missile (Thermal Damage) for all NPC's.

Always maintain range from NPC pack and take out small hull class NPC's asap. Keep drones in reserve and launch onto EWAR Frigates that get under gun range. I ran Arty's split into 2 groups of 3 each. Missiles were not grouped to provide ease of use for various applications. Sometimes I'd assign 1 launcher to each group of 3 Arty's, other times I'd assign both launchers to a single target. I'd assign all weapons on tough large hull class NPC's. On some missions I even used Defender Missiles to help reduce incoming DPS from NPC missile attacks and for best results I'd stagger the activation of the launchers.

Fit up Stats are based on my skills in which most are maxed. I suggest using 3rd party app EFT (Eve Fitting Tool), import your character skills and do mock fit ups before investing ISK in-game.

For standing I used to blitz lvl3 with an Arty Svipul, very effective, make two gun groups to kill frigs faster.

Yeah, Rupture is a good Cruiser, can fit up an excellent defensive shield tank.

General rule of thumb is

- L1 Frigate
- L2 Cruiser
- L3 Battlecruiser
- L4 Battleship

Most of your other options are going to be more expensive
Faction, Pirate Faction, Tech 2 & Tech 3 ships are all options

With an Assault Frigate, L3's are easy and only a handful of L4's will cause problems

What you train will also depend on your long term plan
Just missioning ... look into Battleships & then Marauders
Burner Missions .. PF Frigates & AF's, T3D's, HAC's etc
Incursions ... PF Battleships, Logistic Cruiser

and so on.

I assume L3s are mostly a transitory on your way to L4s!? If so Hurricane should do fine (really, any battlecruiser should do fine; also all kinds of T2 Cruisers do fine, I do them in an Ishtar) while you train skills and earn money for a battleship with which to run L4s.

Once there get a Machariel, that one is pretty much mission endgame.
It will also get you into Incursions (with a proper pimp fit), which are exponentially more fun than that mindnumbing missionrunning...

Uh, what incursions have you been running? Instead of shooting what you want in L3 and L4 missions, someone else tells you to press the F1 on what they want you to shoot at. I would like for them to bring back the Drifter incursions just because the Incursion runners hated them and lost ships in them. P

Are incursions better for isk? Absolutely.

Are they more fun than missioning? Uh, you are stretching it there, buddy. Shocked

Gila, hands down is the best ship for a low skill player.

Use Vespa Navy Drones (each will have over 8k hp)

I rig it with a sensor booster, nav computer and two links to get out to 80k and the drones are fast.
Just pay attention to the groups and kill them together or they'll be flying back and forth too much.
Also you should send each drone on it's own target, since they're so powerful.

Most any difficult level 3 where you're getting over 1000 LP is done in 10 minutes from station
back to station., with only the 5 gate one taking about 15.
