Clone trapped in citadel

So as far as I'm aware, most NPC stations will let you drop off a clone if you decide to switch even if that particular station doesn't have a clone bay, and vice-versa. Apparently with Citadels this isn't the case...

To give the short explanation, a couple of days ago I was in a hurry, so I warped to an Astrahus in system (one that I had already used before in an emergency) and I dropped the clone off there successfully. Now, I login this morning looking to jump back to it, only to find myself looking at the message of "The Clone Bay service is unavailable, please contact the station owner for assistance".

Now, my first thought was that the station was under attack/reinforced, so I got an alt to have a look. Everything appeared to be normal and under control, the citadel was still public. Then I checked the services, and found that there was no longer a clone bay listed. Which brings me back to the original point...

I knew that placing a clone a clone in a citadel owned by someone completely unknown to me would be a risk, but I had done my homework; the corp wasn't listed under any current or future war, and the invulnerability timer was long enough for me to jump back regardless. But having myself blocked off because the owner swapped services/ran out of fuel (I'm not overly familiar with citadel mechanics) and being unable to jump to it despite being able to so with NPC stations is a mark against the former.

The only positive is that the clone that is currently under-going goodness knows what in the citadel is something that I consider to be disposable; if it was something like a full HG Crystal/Slave set, this would really have rustled my jimmies.

TL:DR Don't leave clones in random citadels unless you're happy if you never have to inhabit them again. Ugh

P.S In case anyone accuses me, yes I have contacted the station owner.

LOL...well, look at the math. Citadels are constructed at the whim of a someone. Just as easily that whim can be reversed. What was is no more. NPC stations, on the other hand, are fixed to the landscape. No disappearing act there.

I think it's safe to say the clone feature for citadels was meant as an asset for the citadel's owning interests, not for a replacement of NPC structures. I have heard people musing that citadels will replace NPC stations (eventually). You have just learned why that's a real stupid idea...not likely in this lifetime.

If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.

It is just like a rorqual clone bay - it only works while the clone bay is active. Not that surprising.

With the item "safety" of citadels - if you really need the clone back you can always go blow it up.

Just saying...

Your situation brings up a good point about Citadel mechanics. Maybe a possible solution would be a requirement of the structure owner to transfer the clone(s) to the nearest clone capable NPC station (at the structure owners expense) if they wish to offline the standup clone module while clones are present. Or a 72 hour timer with a notification to all parties that the clones need to be moved prior to off lining the module. I'm sure there are other (probably better) ways to acomplish this. Just a thought.Big smile

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

Or you could just suck it up and be glad that they can't manually delete your clones like a rorqual pilot could...

Seriously guys, if you really need the clone back just blow up the citadel.

edit: If it seems like I'm trying to stir up PvP conflict...yeah, maybe I am. Doesn't change the fact that it works PPirate

I was under the impression that blowing up a citadel liquidates any clone stored in said citadel (in more ways then one).

I was thinking of something along those lines when I was writing the OP, it wouldn't hurt to have an advance warning if your clones are going to be deemed inaccessible.

Just curious but... can they be remotely destroyed, in order to make room for a new clone?

Yes, you can always remotely destroy your own clones in the jump clone menu.

I can't find anything on it one way or another actually...Any link to an official source?

Otherwise, test it =P

You said the clone was expendable anyway right? Twisted

Dirty...

Always trying to stir the pot! Make sure you help David with that quest. I do agree it would certainly teach the Citadel owner a lesson on what modules to use or take off line.

David-

Yes, Caveat Emptor applies to most activities in EVE. Mechanically I think it is okay for it to exist as it is. What I find amusing is that people are looking for some kind of 'Government Control' here to prevent something like this from happening. As has been said, these are player owned and operated and subject to whims.

I'd suggest that a larger Citadel owned by a larger Corporation or Alliance wouldn't suffer from these kinds of whims because now you have many players calling the shots and they are more likely to have some kind of stability in mind.

Personally, I'd never own one of these monsters. They suck up a ton of resources and don't seem to generate much back.

Meh...
I.m good with any or all of the above. Was just offering a possible solution. As a Rorq owner / operator, I've reprocessed many a clone. just trying to help lolBig smile

Ironically that was how I killed my first titan pilot clone Blink

Yes if the citadel goes poof all clones will go space frozen popsicle along with it.

As for OP lol I think itd be an unintended consequence but I do wonder if CCP will change it given the ability to scam or screw people over with it available given the nature of the game. Time will tell on that case. Thanx for a chuckle though.Big smile

Hm got one parked in some one's citadel.

Time to move it back to npc station if I still can what is a pros to doing it anyway...is it you can have them all in same place if you wish unlike npc station where only one can be?

Yeah I know, but I was curious whether it would even show when the Citadel is destroyed, or is automatically destroyed. I indeed keep empty or hardwired PVP clones in Citadels, and usually make sure I switch back and dock up the skill implanted clone after doing some PVP. Equivalent of "putting away your toys".

I know when someone destroys your clone in a rorqual bay you get a notification eve-mail. I assume it is the same for Citadels if they get blown up.
