The new Events. Are they fun???

Having just run about 40 or so "new events" in high sec, it looks like once again the lowest common denominator has been served. Every single Serpentis Shipyard is camped by a fast ship just waiting by the cargo container spamming the "open container" button until the guards are defeated and they can scoop up the contents then warp out.
I'm failing to see the whole point. The rest of the Event sites have a "running with the bulls" mentality that I just don't see as fun.
Just my opinion and maybe I'll get the point later.
Maybe if they were set up like missions so the "mad cash grab" style of play isn't rewarded then maybe I'd like them more.
Just my opinion. I don't mean to be a troll here. Smile

If the box were owned by whoever killed the last rat and turned anyone else who took stuff out of it flashy yellow, we might get some actual fights over its contents.

Well they are a grind for very little gain. Question also is the bronze silver and golden chest worth it? I have 5000 points after countless sights. In the ship yard box all i get are the microprocessors. I have nearly 70. So please can there be a better pot at the end of the sea of little red crosses.

As far as the loot goes you'll make more money by running missions. Even the lucky drops are depreciating on the market due to flooding. The design of the event is such that the value of the site is the site completion counter. As far as the first two boxes I got skins, some serpentis tops, and 2 +10 skill accelerators.... not worth the trouble so far, but on my way to gold (and at least a semi worthless dread bpc).

As far as OP's question: Are they fun? That depends on what you define as fun. If you like running the same complex over, and over, and over then you'll love it.

I normally run the Serpentis Shipyard sites and spam-lock 30+ ships every single time. It gets pretty repetitive. By my calculations, I make about 20m isk/hr from bounties alone, just a bit better than semi-afk mining. But I've also found two high-grade implants, which is nice. If Shipyards pop up in my local area, I go ahead and do them, but I can only tolerate a few before I get bored.

I appreciate the events that CCP has come out with however the Serpentis event is now my least favorite. I love EVE because it is NOT a grind. If I wanted GRIND there are much better games out there for it.

It's ok though, knowing this is what is available I feel I am not missing anything by NOT logging on everyday.

You aren't missing much. The carrot on the string is pretty weak due to the build cost of the dread being very high (40 Billion isk in materials). The only groups I can see this ship appealing to will be hi class wormhole dwellers (K-space dwellers will just use a super carrier and not be locked into siege) The bpc's will flood the market which will drive it's value down. As for the titan and super bpc's it's pretty much expected that account sharers will take those.

Serpentis Shipyard and Research Facilities have a can (make sure event container is checked in overview). It's the one site that has loot.

I have got 1 +2 cha implant that give a 5% to armor repair, and a set bonus. A low grade Alekpian epsilon. So ther eis some extra reward. But it isn't particularly fun to run the sites.
It is too repetitive without the need of a real tactic.

The site names, enemies and difficulty are the same in 0.0. I haven't seen better rewards there.
AFAIK your reply is meaningless in the context of the OP question, as apparently there is no difference between the 0.0 or high sec rewards or difficulty.

Can't really tell if they're fun or not. Like the Guristas, Bloodraider and Frostline event, the sites are heavily competed and therefore a rare sight to see on the overview. This makes it so 90% (my personal estimate) of the playerbase never actually gets to see one and complete it without interruption.

However I don't think that making the sites personal (like missions) or create more of them would fix it however.

Overall, I think the events are of bad design and doesn't contribute to the game, not even lorewise. It is simply CCP throwing us a stick and telling us to go fetch. But that's just my personal opinion.

Wouldn't you find trying to sink a Drifter battleship with a frigate "fun"? Shocked

Its like WoW or Guild Wars 2 dailies with monthlies as well. Grinding for trinkets.

Making the game like other MMOs won't stop declining player numbers.

Declining numbers? I know tons of people who'd play if it wasn't lambs to the slaughter, them the lambs, the "vets" the butchers. Paying to be the invited screwee in a gankfest just doesn't appeal to people with the kind of intelligence that earns a decent take-home pay. When will game devs learn to stop catering to the single mom's VISA for junior? Never.

I dont even worry about the can. if i get it i get it. If i dont i dont. Its actually becoming super grindy and i hate that about games. Been through 7 systems tonight and not one event site of any type, wonder where they went. Think i may be throwing in the towel on this one and going back to pew pew. Im not carebear enough to grind these for 40 days and 40 nights.

some serpentis tops

Hi i would like to trade these for the following:

Singularity Rocket Launcher and 1000 Singularity Rockets:
*5 KM base range
*Holds 10 rockets
*15 second cycle time
* 60 second reload
*Singularity Rocket - Creates a micro singularity at the point of impact instantly vaporizing any sub capital NPC ship it strikes( except concord) with a single rocket. Does not work on capital size ships , player ships, or structures.

I haven't done the new events, since my gametime is limited I prefer to do other stuff. The events are just too grindy for me, reminds me of WoW dailies.

And no I'm not hating, that's just my two isk.

Its a pretty reasonable design, in that

(a) if you can't play every day, you aren't penalized.
(b) there is a component of the income that people can't steal from you.
(c) there are 3 or 4 strategies in play (do everything, just do S+Rs, just "steal" from S+Rs, just capsule leech etc).
(d) the valuable strategy (implant farming) is exposed to a little bit of contention or as some may view it,"theft".

The issues are

(a) it broke badly when released (lack of crediting stayed around for days).

(b) one of the options for implant strategy farming (finding S+Rs in places where there is no competition) appears to be essentially identical in nature to ratting anomolies, but with 25% of the bounties, no faction rat, and the tiny escalation turned into a tiny implant chance, and you can't direct the chances of the implants to suit yourself.

The problem with tiny chances is that individual players can face unbound failures, ie if the implant drop chance is as low as 5%, then 100 can loots without a drop is going to happen to like 10% of the playerbase (the exact number I'll leave up to people that do stats). I'm currently sampling the loot drop chance at below 10%, don't know if thats the average, or if that is even a streak yet.

(c) the encounters are generally dull and just require a general dps ship, preferably with rat specific resists and damage.

(d) no cross over between encounters - there is a little cross over between tasks - ie occasionally you might complete a part of 2 tasks at once, but you won't need an object collected in 1 task, to do another or anything like that, there is no essential puzzle.

(e) the grinding component of the reward isn't very interesting - collected all up its basically half a skill injector and a bpc most people probably won't build.
