Hello Capsuleers,

I gotta say CCP announcing the removal of Evelopedia was quite a shock, especially since their notice was given less than a week prior to them removing access to it. Their reason stated is there's a lot of other 3rd party wiki's that are more up to date which are referenced by a vast majority of the playerbase community.

Well I disagree.

Obviously the Evelopedia was a bit out dated but overall it was still a very good source of info, especially pertaining to the PvE aspect of Eve Online. Seeing that there's still a need for the information contained in Evelopedia, I talked to Mr. Peabody and Sherman who both agreed to let me use The Wayback Machine to get a usable working snapshot.

EVELOPEDIA via The Wayback Machine
(To access link, right click and select 'Open In New Tab')

The Wayback Machine enables Evelopedia viewing but no updating. The search option won't work so navigation to a specific page is done manually by using the various links inside the wiki. I suggest clicking 'Guides' on the front page after Evelopedia loads to start navigating it. If you rush with clicking, the CCP page 'Evelopedia Discontinued' will load, just reverse / close it and hover the mouse over the link to the intended page for a bit and then click again. It may take a bit for the Wayback Machine to load the correct page.

Hopefully somebody can transcribe all of this valuable information into a new wiki which can then be updated.

Didnt CCP themselves say it hadn't been updated in years and that even internally they just use eve unis wiki?

Will gank for food

The problem with Evelopedia is that CCP would not update the initial Database and would constantly change things in game with little to no given notice. Updating Evelopedia was then done by the playerbase after the fact by sheer discovery which quickly became outdated due to more changes being done by CCP. That made updating Evelopedia an overwhelming task. To make matters worse the owners / creators of the other 3rd party wiki's, who first got most of their initial info from Evelopedia to begin with, decided to promote and advertise their own wiki's instead of helping to keep the Official Eve Wiki updated..

I created / updated a lot of Cosmic Anomaly / Cosmic Signature pages in Evelopedia and also updated / completed Exploration site pages that were created and left unfinished by other players. I also created / updated / completed a lot of Escalation Expedition pages. I also created / updated most of the Event Agent pages such as Tutorial Agents (retired by CCP), Career Agents, Circle Agents, Data Center Agents and extensively updated the Cosmos Agents page as well. I also contributed / updated the Amarr, Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar Cosmos guides that were written in the Evelopedia and created quite a few Agent pages.

Not to mention I also contributed to and updated the Epic Arc Agents page. Also while running those Epic Arcs, I updated their Evelopedia mission pages at the same time I was creating / updating Epic Arc pages in Eve Survival. I also created a character RP pilot page and contributed to plenty of other Evelopedia pages with minor updates such as fixing typo's, correcting grammar, redoing sentence / paragraph structure, etc. Last but not least I created and contributed the Faction Standing Repair Plan to always be available for the playerbase.

I'm not listing all of this for recognition, it's simply to prove that there was indeed people trying to improve and help keep Evelopedia up to date for the Eve Online Community.

DMC, honestly, thanks for all the work you do. It was certainly a help while I was new, and I still reference the plan from time to time.

Do you know what's happened to the eve survival mission pages? Whenever I click to read comments, it just comes up that the page doesn't exist yet - despite it having existed previously, and there still showing as comments on the original page.

Thanks and you're welcome.

As for Eve Survival, I didn't know there was still a problem with it displaying comments. Probably the best course of action to do is join the Eve Survival chat channel in-game. It should list contact info for the person in charge of the site.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Just wanted to add that The Wayback Machine can also be used to view that site as well.

Thanks for going to the trouble of doing this. CCP really messed up getting rid of the wiki so quickly - a lot of good info was in there that didn't really need updating and wasn't available elsewhere in the detail that was there. I've always said the only mistake you make in EVE is to play the game the way someone else tells you to and not the way you want to - CCP seem to have forgotten that maybe not everyone played the game the way they did and therefore accessed information they may not not see as relevant.

Thanks for posting and yes, I agree 100%.

All of the other sites that used the Evelopedia data dump have eliminated multiple pages, thus making it even worse to access info.

In my opinion having outdated info is definitely better than having no info at all.

Wow, what a fantastic resource, I often miss that site for the exploration, epic arc bits and pieces so thanks for bringing that back to life.

One question on the search facility, I searched for Anomolies for example I get

Hrm.

Wayback Machine doesn't have that page archived.

Want to search for all archived pages under https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ ?

Do you have to know exactly where you need to navigate to on this wayback site?

I added a bit more info to the original post of this thread :

Here is the Cosmic Anomaly page containing links to all of the other Anomaly sites :

(Right click and select 'Open In New Tab')

I believe the trick to navigating Evelopedia with The Wayback Machine is to take your time and hover the mouse over the link for a bit before clicking. It seems The Wayback Machine needs a bit to calculate the time and date that specific Evelopedia page was last accessed before CCP discontinued it. Sometimes it requires multiple attempts to finally get the correct page to load.

I'm using FireFox Browser and that's how it works for me right now.
