- Dang it, let's shut it down.

- CCP, your browser is outdated!

- We got a lot of work to do. Just shut it down.

- CCP, are you f@#ken serious?!

- Back off, man, we need to make EVE the best MMO ever!

- Okay...

- So, we developed hard to make EVE amazing, and here what's new: we made DAILY MISSIONS for ya and SKILL POINTS for money!! Enjoy!

Given the option of devs half-stepping something crappy that is not needed (evelopedia, IGB, etc) or devs working on core mechanics, I choose the latter.

I say 'good riddance.'

Since I run dual monitor, one fixed window EVE, the other a standard browser, I can't say I use the in-game one. No impact here, but if you did, sorry to hear about it... Yeah, something else dying.

When you say "core mechanics" - do you mean new ship skins or new hair styles?

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool. They lay. They rotted. They turned Around occasionally. Bits of flesh dropped off them from Time to time. And sank into the pool's mire. They also smelt a great deal.

I can only trust that they'll make the right choices with the extra dev time this gives them. While I breathe, I hope.

Keeping a browser up-to-date requires a dedicated team. The constant discovery of new exploits cannot be ignored.

The IGB is already badly outdated, and it's an open attack vector for anyone with the desire to actually make an attack, and it wouldn't even be difficult considering how old it is.

Getting rid of it is the best possible choice for both financial reasons and security reasons.

You are not wrong - but ironically CCP will use the dev time freed up by discontinuing the browser to continue releasing new poorly-tested "features" which don't match any other game mechanics and introduce EVEN MORE exploits into the game... So still kind of self defeating. Ugh

What they do with the freed up Dev time is neither here nor there, and frankly not in our control.

The only thing I have used the IGB for in years is Tripwire. Hope they can move that over to out of game browsers with CREST.

Who cares about in-game exploits? The exploits I'm referring to are computer exploits that would affect your entire computer. From simple things such as turning your computer into a zombie for a botnet to life-altering situations such as identity theft and having your bank accounts emptied.

I'd take 10,000 in-game exploits a day over a single out-of-game exploit.

The decision makers from CCP have proven to be the worst ennemies of EVE Online since years :
Since they decided not to fix nor improve the game anymore to instead devellop other games (with our subscriptions) which never went on or became unsuccessful for being for console only...
Since they annouced "walk in station" and delivered "walk alone in your bedroom wearing a 200€ monocle"
Since they changed the icons and made a clunky new UI no one was asking for...
Since they... ah well, why do i lose my energy again...

As a dedicated Local / Fleetchat Gif-spamer and viewer:

o7 Ingame Browser. You have seen so many things no browser should be forced to see in his life. Eve will be different without you.

You served us well. I will miss you Sad

Why not just replace the IGB with a link to a browser of your choice and settings? Keep the IGB icon, make it customizable to choose a browser and be done with it. This way you can access a browser quickly without keeping it open all the time.

I understand the reason behind this but please keep the function of the browser quick access

LOL! Given the fact that "devs" around this place is using the term quite loosely. The OP has it right. If it's beyond our bare-bones minimum salary allotment, we cut it loose. If it can be built quickly and cheaply, and painted to look cool, then let's get on it right away!

Here's to the stationary ships! May they sit there motionless and...do whatever! Yay!

Three things set EVE apart...the real EVE, that is...er, was....the notepad, the calculator and the BROWSER.

Like Meatloaf said, "Two outta three ain't bad." Wayttaminnit...Meatloaf SUCKS!

If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.

I agree and there's a lot more stuff that can be added to that list.

Don't need any Dev's to get rid of things that require more work to update and fix. That way CCP can keep adding useless changes to things that already work in-game until those become outdated and broken.

Thus the cycle continues.

The bottom line is it's all about cutting costs, reducing any type of overhead expenditure and freeing up more space on the server.

EVElopedia was a wiki, so we dropped the ball maintaining the database as much as they did.

Umm, we don't have access to the Database and those pages were locked by CCP. Hell, they even had the page about Epic Arcs locked and when we asked about updating it, a CCP Dev unlocked it allowing us to update it.

If you weren't an illiterate buffoon you would have seen that I was directly replying to people talking about "the freed up dev time" - it wasn't my concept, i was just disillusioning them about what CCP would do with any hypothetical new free time.
