Can someone explain to me why that seems like a good idea to some? Is there any scenario where that would actually be beneficial?

Where did you ever hear about "EVE 2" and why would CCP ever even contemplate that? Perhaps the single most critical aspect of EVE are the players, and dividing people between "EVE 1" and "EVE 2" would be a fool's errand. Worse, if they instead took away "EVE 1" and destroying 13 years of events and history would cause a lot (most?) of the old guard to quit.

It's not a good idea. I could list 156 reasons why.

The reason why some people ask for this, is because they believe that somehow a full reset would give them a chance at becoming the "best" at EvE. The problem is, that EvE does not have a specified end-goal you can grind or get a head-start on.

Anyway, we already have an EvE 2.0 or higher. The engine and gameplay has been revised in such a drastic manner, that one can hardly argue that the initial EvE released in 2003 is even close to what we have today.

Yeah, that's the same way I think about it. Weirdly enough the latest place I saw this actually wasn't GD here, it was GD over on the Dust 514 Forums.

People asking for EVE 2.0 believe that if there was a hard reset, where everyone started from scratch again, somehow that would make it easier for them to *win*.

What they completely fail to appreciate is that all the ISK and SP in New Eden doesn't count for squat without a few trusted friends around.

It's more than a bit disingenuous to claim 13-years worth of SP, ISK and organization is insignificant, and with just a few good friends (presumably found in this more-than-simple environment for social-izing) you're as well off as the most bitterest of bittervets. Au contraire, mon ami. I'd also bet the ones who make such assertions are also the ones who make finding friends in this massive open-air jungle such a SIMPLE thing to do.

The idea of having a ghost of a chance against those who have more than a decade's worth of running headstart isn't really something one should denigrate or dismiss. That it isn't something likely to happen in EVE is one of those cold, hard facts of life people really need to understand in order to understand the terrain.

The point is, 13-years from now, any noob will look like a 13-year bittervet. All you gotta do is keep swingin'. You'll get there. Just bear in mind, by then there'll be more than a few 26-year bittervets. That's the nature of clocks, and calendars... Take heart in the knowledge their teeth will be falling out, to match their hair that fell out ten years before, and they'll be swingin' a mean cane IRL.

By the way; your calendar's days are numbered! But, there is no EVE 2. Sowwy. Cool

Wait what?
So do these carebears want EvE 2 reset to 2004 or do they want to keep all the nerfs, because i dont really think they want EvE 2004.

Keep this crap up and soon we will be able to say: "EvE WAS hard"

How I think Eve 2 would be beneficial is for no legacy code holding back like it has been doing for years now and good opportunity to add longer beard. But me still likey what we have now.

In EVE 2.0 there is no high sec/lo sec. All space is lawless space! There are no mission hubs, no PVE at all, no security guards protecting carebears, not even invulvnerable trade hubs. Every trade hub has to be built by players and can be attacked, every single thing in the game is built from the wrecks of other players.

In EVE 2.0 the only rat left to grind is you. Shocked

Then again I suppose you would still need to be able to build things via industry and mining... oh hell did I really just say that.

Okay, you seriously feel it necessary to continue shitting on a game we loved? I'm going to assume you're one of those that's still bitter about it not being on PC.

Spend any amount of time reading f&i and you will end up with a grab bag.

My personal favorite one was along the lins of
"other players are better at eve than i am, and theyre co operating,
ccp this isnt fair,
please adress this immediatly or ill unsub my eleventy twelve accounts ktnxbby"

Ihavent seen "eve 2" tabled in a while but its definitlybeen asked for a lot.
Always laughed at of corse and rightly so.
